Your impact

In this role, you help the plant run safer every day by pairing sharp observation with strong follow-through. You will be present on the floor, in the yard, and in maintenance areas to uncover hazards, and you will keep OSHA documents and SDS in order so compliance is never in doubt. When incidents or near misses occur, you help uncover what happened and how to prevent a repeat. You’ll also shape safe habits by orienting new team members, leading toolbox talks, and coaching proper PPE use.

What you’ll handle

• Plan, conduct, and document safety inspections across production areas, yard operations, maintenance shops, and near mobile equipment; escalate unsafe behaviors/conditions and compliance gaps to plant leadership.
• Support environmental compliance tasks.
• Assist with mobile equipment safety monitoring (forklifts, cranes, loaders, yard trucks).
• Assist with investigations of incidents, near misses, property damage, and injuries—gather facts, interview, document findings for root cause and preventive actions.
• Help maintain OSHA compliance by organizing Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safety records.
• Assist with new-hire safety orientation and toolbox talks; reinforce safe work practices and correct PPE usage on the production floor.
• Maintain safety files, training records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.
• Inspect fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, emergency equipment, and fall protection equipment.
• Participate in safety committee meetings and support site-wide safety initiatives.

What sets you up for success

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

• Safety experience (1–2 years) preferred, not required.
• Exposure to manufacturing, construction, or industrial environments preferred.

Capabilities

• Basic understanding of workplace safety principles.
• Attention to detail, strong observation, and clear communication.
• Ability to collaborate with employees at all levels.
• Confident hazard recognition.
• Basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and email skills.
• Trustworthy with confidential information.

Physical realities of the job

• Frequent walking in plant and yard settings.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Consistent use of required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves.

Environment

Approximately half of your time is in an office and half in the plant/field with exposure to noise, dirt, heat, cold, oil, fumes, and similar elements.
