Director of Quality Assurance

Job Title: Director of Quality Assurance Location: On Site - Saint Louis, Missouri, United States About the Chemical Manufacturing Company / The Opportunity: Join a well-established manufacturer in the chemical manufacturing industry focused on cleaning, sanitation, and institutional products. This Director of Quality Assurance role is an on-site leadership opportunity to shape and sustain robust quality systems across a large-scale manufacturing operation. The position offers the chance to lead quality strategy, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement that directly impacts product safety, consistency, and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities: Lead and oversee the company-wide quality assurance and quality control functions across manufacturing, laboratory, R&D, and supply chain. Develop, implement, and maintain QMS documentation, SOPs, batch records, document control, and quality policies to meet regulatory and customer requirements. Manage internal, customer, and third-party audits (ISO, FDA, EPA, SQF, NSF, etc.) and coordinate responses to audit findings. Direct the CAPA program, nonconformance management, root cause analysis, and verification of corrective actions to drive continuous improvement. Oversee incoming material inspection, in-process controls, finished goods testing, product release, and lot traceability procedures. Supervise and mentor quality staff, provide training on quality practices, and foster a culture of quality and accountability. Partner with production, engineering, R&D, and customer service to resolve quality issues, support new product introductions, and improve manufacturing processes using SPC and data-driven methods. Manage laboratory operations and ensure testing methods, calibration, and data integrity meet regulatory and internal standards. Must-Have Skills: Proven leadership experience directing QA/QC and QMS in chemical or related regulated manufacturing environments. Deep knowledge of cGMP/GMP, ISO 9001 (including ISO 9001:2015), and applicable FDA/EPA requirements. Hands-on experience with CAPA, SOP development, document control, batch records, and product release processes. Strong audit experience (internal, supplier, customer, third-party) and ability to manage audit responses. Practical skills in root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, and statistical process control (SPC). Experience managing laboratory testing, incoming material inspection, and finished goods quality programs. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Quality Management, or related technical field (advanced degree or professional quality certifications preferred). Nice-to-Have Skills: Certifications such as ASQ CQM/CQE/CQA, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or ISO lead/internal auditor credentials. Experience with SQF, HACCP, NSF, or other food-safety/industry-specific standards. Background in specialty cleaning, sanitation, or household/personal care product formulation and quality control. Familiarity with EPA-registered facility requirements and environmental compliance programs. Experience leading quality initiatives in contract manufacturing or multi-site operations.
