Our client has 70 years of industry experience, they specialize in designing and manufacturing innovative gel packs for cold chain shipping. They deliver reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable refrigerant solutions that help businesses protect temperature-sensitive products throughout the shipping process.
They are looking to grow the Streamwood, IL location with more mechanical talent coming from the military to strengthen this established plant.
Machine Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting assigned production equipment to ensure safety, product quality, and production goals are consistently achieved.
This role is well suited for individuals with mechanical aptitude, hands-on equipment experience, and a commitment to safety, accountability, and teamwork. Experience gained through military service, technical training, equipment maintenance, logistics, operations, or other hands-on roles may provide a strong foundation for success.
Veterans and transitioning service members are encouraged to apply. Military experience in equipment operation, preventive maintenance, mechanical systems, technical inspections, troubleshooting, or team leadership may translate well to this position.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Machine Operation & Troubleshooting: Set up, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot production equipment to meet safety, quality, and production requirements. Identify equipment issues and perform authorized adjustments or minor repairs.
Preventive Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and cleaning. Identify hazards, follow safety procedures, and report equipment concerns promptly.
Quality & Production Control: Monitor production output and finished products to ensure compliance with established quality standards, operating procedures, and production schedules.
Documentation & Communication: Complete required production and quality records. Communicate equipment issues, downtime, quality concerns, and shift updates to supervisors and team members.
Teamwork & Leadership: Provide day-to-day direction to Packers and Stackers, promote safe work practices, and support a collaborative, accountable work environment.
Operational Support: Maintain an organized work area and assist with additional assignments and production needs as required.
Required Skills & Abilities
Mechanical aptitude and an interest in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting production equipment.
Familiarity with hand tools and mechanical equipment through employment, military service, technical training, or other hands-on experience.
Ability to follow written procedures, technical instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify issues, evaluate available information, and take appropriate action.
Attention to detail when inspecting equipment, monitoring production, and completing documentation.
Ability to learn new equipment, manufacturing processes, and computerized systems.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Reliability, accountability, initiative, and a strong commitment to safe work practices.
Willingness to support changing production needs, work overtime when required, and take on additional responsibilities.
Experience with computerized maintenance systems, ERP platforms, or digital production reporting is a plus, but not required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and reach to inspect, clean, and service machinery.
Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where required by applicable law.
Ability to work safely around operating production equipment and maintain awareness of surrounding personnel and processes.
