Payment Systems EngineerLocation: Lincolnshire, IL (Hybrid) 3 Days On-siteEmployment Type: Full-TimeExperience: 5–10 YearsAbout the RoleWe’re building a modern, scalable enterprise payments platform to support seamless transactions across in-store POS, e-commerce, mobile, kiosk, and call center channels.As a Payment Systems Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, building, and scaling payment capabilities. You’ll work closely with Product, Architecture, and other engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing payment solutions.This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving real-world problems, working with external payment providers, and shipping production-ready systems.Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Development & IntegrationsDesign, build, and maintain payment services and APIs using C# and .NET/.NET CoreIntegrate with payment processors, gateways, acquiring banks, and third-party providersSupport integrations with digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay) and alternative payment methodsContribute to building a payment abstraction layer that simplifies multi-provider integrationsImplement payment flows including authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, and chargebacksPayments Functionality & FeaturesDevelop and enhance capabilities such as payment routing, retry logic, and failover handlingSupport card-present and card-not-present payment flows (POS, e-commerce, mobile)Work on mPOS, in-app payments, hosted payment pages, and Text-to-Pay solutionsImplement and maintain integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, and other payment protocolsReliability & OperationsMonitor and troubleshoot payment transactions and production issuesImprove system performance, scalability, and transaction success ratesParticipate in incident response and root cause analysis, implementing fixes and improvementsContribute to observability through logging, metrics, and alertingCollaboration & DeliveryPartner with Product and Architecture teams to translate requirements into technical solutionsParticipate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and code reviewsWrite clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeContinuously improve development practices, tooling, and processesRequired Qualifications5–10 years of software engineering experienceStrong proficiency in C# and .NET/.NET CoreExperience building and consuming RESTful APIsHands-on experience integrating with third-party systems or APIsFamiliarity with payment systems or financial transactionsUnderstanding of secure coding practices and data protectionExperience with relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug production issuesEffective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience with payment gateways, processors, or POS systemsFamiliarity with payment concepts such as EMV, tokenization, 3DS, and PCI-DSSExperience with event-driven systems or messaging platforms (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus)Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)Experience with digital wallets and mobile paymentsFamiliarity with alternative payment methods (ACH, BNPL, real-time payments)Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments (Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.)General Compensation DisclosureThe pay range for this role considers several factors in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Camping World, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the factors stated. A reasonable estimate of the current range is listed below.
