Executive Director

The Executive Director (“ED”) serves as the head of Brooklyn For Peace, working alongside the board and committees, providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and fundraising expertise to sustain the organization and advance the mission of peace and social justice. The ED is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plans of Brooklyn For Peace.

We are seeking a candidate who is committed to advancing peace, equity, and social justice, as demonstrated through previous job experience and community activism. The ideal candidate will have some familiarity with the specific issues related to our broader mission.

The ED will report directly to the Chair and Co-Vice Chairs of the Board.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership and oversee the daily operations of the organization, ensuring the effective implementation of programs and initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Board, committees of the active members, and our Program and Events Coordinator to develop and implement programs and activities which promote BFP’s mission, including fundraising events and annual gala.
• Lead fundraising and development efforts, cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners to ensure the organization’s financial sustainability.
• Establish and maintain relationships with organizations working to achieve systemic change consistent with BFP’s mission.
• Oversee and guide all external communications, including the website, marketing materials, newsletters, press releases, and social media, to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with BFP’s mission.
• Report regularly to the Board of Directors on organizational performance, opportunities, and strategic priorities.
• Represent BFP in the community and among partner organizations, promoting collaboration and visibility.
• Oversee budgeting, financial management, and compliance to ensure responsible stewardship of resources.

Skills and Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Commitment to BFP’s mission of peace and social justice and demonstrated engagement with our core objectives.
• Strong public relations and marketing skills.
• Active fundraising experience.
• Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
• Previous success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and revenue growth.
• Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
• 2 or more years’ management experience working at a nonprofit or other progressive organization.
• Proven ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors in advancing organizational goals and growth.
• Ability to work with young adults and diverse communities.
• Demonstrate flexibility, enthusiastic ability to oversee and collaborate with staff and volunteers.
• Organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
• Strong writing and oral communication skills.
