Chief of Vascular Surgery

Mount Sinai South Nassau (MSSN) is seeking a visionary, full-time Chief of Vascular Surgery to lead, expand, and clinically direct its Division of Vascular Surgery in Oceanside!

This prominent leadership role is designed for a Board-Certified Vascular Surgeon with proven administrative experience who can drive strategic program growth, manage quality metrics, and oversee clinical operations. The Chief will maintain an active clinical practice performing the full breadth of open and endovascular interventions while leading a highly collegial, performance-driven department. Candidates will also be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, based upon background and experience.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Division Management

• Strategic Growth: Direct the Division of Vascular Surgery, build upon the existing platform, and develop new areas of specialized clinical expertise.

• Faculty Recruitment: Lead recruitment efforts to expand the division's full-time faculty and support staff to meet growing regional demands.

• Quality & Safety: Provide administrative oversight, managing and improving division-wide quality, safety, and performance metrics.

• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner closely with hospital specialists, clinical support staff, and executive administration within a team-oriented health system.

Clinical & Trauma Operations

• Surgical Practice: Perform the full breadth of open vascular surgical procedures and advanced endovascular interventions.

• Trauma Support: Oversee and provide expert vascular consultations and emergency interventions for our busy Level II Trauma Center (65,000 annual ED visits).

• Advanced Facilities: Maximize utilization of the fully accredited vascular laboratory (ICAVL), state-of-the-art interventional suite, and dedicated Vascular Access program.

Academic Excellence & Education

• Residency Training: Teach, mentor, and evaluate surgical residents and medical students, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence.

• Institutional Advancement: Support the expansion of fellowships and graduate medical education training programs across the Department of Surgery and Medicine.

Qualifications

• Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited university.

• Active or eligible for a New York State Medical License.

• Board Certified (BC) in Vascular Surgery.

• Prior leadership or administrative experience within an acute care or academic medical center. Eligibility for a faculty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine.

• Exceptional communication, outstanding clinical and teaching skills, excellent bedside manner, and a strong system work ethic.
