Cancer Imaging Program Body Fellowship
Radiological Society of North America
Cancer Imaging Program Fellowship Exciting new updates to this world‑class Cancer Imaging fellowship Accepting applications for July 2027! The Cancer Imaging Program (CIP) Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) provides a comprehensive education in body imaging (chest and abdomen), including MRI, CT, PET‑CT, and US, with an emphasis on adult patients with cancer. Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute is a world‑renowned cancer center, Harvard Medical School teaching affiliate, and provides subspecialty adult clinical care jointly with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Clinical Experience The CIP Fellowship provides a comprehensive experience in body imaging, with fellows’ time divided between thoracic and abdominal subspecialties throughout the year. Fellows receive one‑on‑one, onsite training from jointly appointed, subspecialized BIDMC/DFCI faculty across multiple imaging modalities including CT, MRI, and ultrasound. The MRI curriculum focuses on advanced cancer‑related abdomen and pelvis applications (1.5T and 3T systems) including prostate, rectal, hepatobiliary, female pelvis, and MR urography, among others. Interpreting and protocoling initial cancer staging CT scans and oncologic follow‑ups are the focus of the thoracic and abdominal CT experiences. Ultrasound assignments cover routine abdominal, male and female pelvic/genitourinary, thyroid, basic vascular (DVT), and superficial soft tissue exams. Additional experience in reading inpatient and general CT and MRI examinations is also available throughout the workday and on‑call, making the CIP fellowship a comprehensive body imaging experience. Clinical coverage responsibility for fellows includes weekday and weekend clinical coverage at the DFCI and BIDMC Longwood campuses and rotating weekday coverage at the Dana‑Farber Chestnut Hill campus. Teaching/Conferences In addition to continual one‑on‑one teaching throughout the day, ample protected time for formal didactics includes: Weekly CIP seminar series (designated for Category 1 CME credit) covering comprehensive topics in cancer imaging. Multidisciplinary tumor boards (e.g. Colorectal, Hepatobiliary, Prostate) Daily thoracic and abdominal subspecialty case‑based conferences MRI/physics lectures Extensive database of pre‑recorded lectures to supplement learning In addition, fellows have the opportunity to develop their own teaching skills through participation in resident lectures and reading room education. Research Experience Dedicated research time is available for fellows submitting approved research projects in conjunction with an attending radiologist as project mentor. Research time may begin two months after the start of the fellowship and is contingent on clinical coverage and project approval by the Fellowship Program Director. Assistance in identifying projects and research mentors can be provided as necessary. Research milestone schedules are clearly articulated at the start of the project and research progress is monitored on a continuous basis throughout the year. Elective Time Up to four weeks of the CIP Fellowship may be used as elective time which may be spent in other radiology disciplines within BIDMC or as additional time for approved research. Meeting time can also be granted for accepted research. PET‑CT Clinical Rotation This optional clinical rotation will provide physicians with advanced clinical imaging training in oncology with a focus on PET‑CT, molecular imaging, evaluation of novel therapeutic drugs, and new PET radiopharmaceuticals. Eligibility U.S. applicants must be board‑eligible or board‑certified in radiology. Foreign applicants must be ECFMG certified and eligible to obtain a clinical visa prior to starting the fellowship.
