Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to perform medical disability assessments for U.S. Veterans as part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability benefits evaluation process.

In this role, you will conduct focused, non-treatment medical examinations, review electronic medical records, and complete disability evaluation reports. This is an excellent opportunity for providers who enjoy patient interaction and clinical assessment while maintaining a predictable schedule with no on-call responsibilities.

Please note: This position does not involve treatment, prescribing medications, or establishing ongoing patient-provider relationships. Providers are responsible solely for performing evaluations and documenting findings. Final disability determinations are made by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive, in-person disability assessment examinations for U.S. Veterans.
• Review and analyze electronic medical records through a secure web-based portal.
• Accurately document examination findings and complete required VA disability evaluation forms.
• Provide medical opinions based on objective clinical findings and record reviews.
• Ensure timely and thorough completion of all required documentation.
• Maintain professionalism, empathy, and respect when interacting with Veterans.

Qualifications

Required

• Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license in the state of practice.
• Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and web-based documentation platforms.
• Ability to independently manage assigned caseload and meet documentation deadlines.

Preferred

• Experience performing disability evaluations, occupational health assessments, compensation and pension (C&P) exams, or independent medical examinations (IMEs).
• Prior military, veteran healthcare, or government healthcare experience is a plus.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• No evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call responsibilities
• Average caseload of 3–5 Veterans per day
• Computer equipment and necessary resources provided
