Clinical Support Tech II - Interventional Radiology Prep and Recovery

Clinical Support Technician II Location: Vascular-Interventional Radiology, Memorial Hospital Scheduled Work Hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, weekdays only The Clinical Support Technician II assists the professional caregiver in delivering patient care, transporting patients, supplies, specimens, and equipment, setting up and maintaining procedural rooms, and performing a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance tasks in the patient care unit. The role requires clinical and procedural knowledge, sterile technique, infusion monitoring, and use of radiological medical equipment. The CST II also coordinates the flow of communications on the unit. Summary: The CST II may or may not have a defined patient care assignment and assists in patient flow, greeting visitors, answering phones, quality assurance audits, safety checks, cleaning, changing linens, restocking supplies, and transportation. Responsibilities Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies. Critically review patient care documentation, noting any significant changes in the patient’s condition and report immediately to a registered nurse or physician. Provide clerical tasks including organizing workload, greeting visitors, researching information requested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for clarity, revising orders upon request, answering the telephone and patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Perform routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies. Provide administrative and clerical support, including PI audits and data entry. Provide clinical support assistance: clean the work area, maintain office equipment, troubleshoot common software and hardware problems, change linens, check supply inventory, restock supplies, transport patients/supplies/specimens, and assist with orientation of new employees and students. Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in the plan of care, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation. Measure and record vital signs, height, and weight. Possible responsibilities include specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, oxygen room set‑up and monitoring, oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning, tracheostomy care, fecal impaction removal, sterile dressing changes, wound irrigation, IV fluid assembly and monitoring, IV site care and discontinuation of peripheral IV, ostomy irrigation and care, urinary catheterization and irrigation, and established oral, nasogastric, and gastrostomy tube feeding. Reinforce routine teaching given by the registered nurse or physician, document patient understanding, and distribute patient education materials as requested.
