South Mountain Community College is hiring a Student Services Analyst (Academic Advisor). As an Academic Advisor, you'll play a vital role in guiding students toward success! You'll provide personalized support to help them navigate course selection, registration, transfer pathways, and academic goals while connecting them with essential resources. Beyond advising, you'll drive student success initiatives by implementing Guided Pathways, collaborating with faculty and student services, and leading training sessions. You'll also engage in outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts, ensuring students stay on track. Essential Functions
45% - Provides professional, end-to-end academic advising to a caseload of students, supporting their learning, persistence, and degree completion. Offers one-on-one and group advising on onboarding, retention, and academic success. Guides students in goal setting, decision-making, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, and academic progress using PeopleSoft and other technology. Identifies opportunities such as extracurricular activities, study abroad programs, research, and internships. Advises students on options best suited to their goals, interests, and skills. Serves as the primary liaison, connecting students with academic and personal resources, including tutoring and counseling. Conducts proactive follow-ups to ensure progress and monitors academic performance using reporting tools. 25% - Supports change management efforts related to Guided Pathways and case management advising. Serves as an institutional resource to enhance advisement for student success. Collaborates with academic units and student services across colleges and the district to provide comprehensive academic support. Acts as a liaison to students, faculty, staff, and external groups. Coordinates with College and District partners to promote programs on campus and in the community. Develops and delivers training for faculty and staff on advising-related topics. Interprets and explains College and Maricopa Community College District policies on admissions, curriculum, advising, student success, and degree completion. Works with faculty and counselors to develop student success courses. Supervises and provides direction to undergraduate student workers, evaluates their performance, and provides feedback. Handles sensitive issues requiring confidentiality and escalates matters to senior leadership when necessary. 15% - Researches program opportunities, industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. Coordinates projects related to student learning, success, and retention. Leads outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts, including new student orientations and information sessions. Engages with student organizations and develops program resources, presentations, reports, and promotional materials. 15% - Develops and assesses student learning outcomes. Conducts evaluations, analyzes program data, and measures effectiveness to improve student success. Implements and refines processes and procedures, making recommendations for program improvements. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Desired Qualifications
A. Master's Degree in Academic Advising, Education, Counseling, Sociology, any liberal arts or sciences discipline, or related field.
B. One (1) or more years of providing academic or career advising in a college or university setting.
C. One (1) or more years experience with guided pathways providing student support and academic program selection using Fields of Interest (meta-majors)
D. One (1) or more years experience working with cohorts of students in a high volume, fast-paced environment
E. Experience using online student information systems (for example, Peoplesoft) How to Apply
