Maintenance Technician

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to support production operations by troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring production uptime while maintaining strict food safety and sanitation standards in compliance with USDA/FDA regulations. Key Responsibilities Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on production equipment Diagnose equipment failures and respond quickly to minimize downtime Repair or fabricate parts using welders, lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and other shop equipment Install, assemble, and repair machinery, pipe systems, and electrical components Troubleshoot electrical systems using schematics, diagrams, and manuals Test repairs and installations to ensure proper functionality Maintain and repair electrically driven systems, motors, and equipment Work with PLC motor controls, VFDs, and ammonia refrigeration systems Accurately record maintenance work and parts used in a CMMS system Follow all food safety, SQF, and OSHA regulations at all times Support continuous improvement and preventative maintenance initiatives Assist with additional duties as assigned Qualifications Previous maintenance experience in manufacturing, food production, or industrial environments Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills Experience with PLCs, VFDs, and industrial electrical systems preferred Familiarity with ammonia refrigeration systems is a plus Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals Strong sense of urgency and ability to work in a fast-paced environment Reliable attendance and ability to work independently or on a team Education & Requirements High school diploma or GED preferred Basic math, reading, and writing skills Ability to work overtime as needed, with or without notice Work Environment Refrigerated environment (34°F – 45°F) Wet, fast-paced food production setting Work may be performed indoors and outdoors Physical Requirements Continuous standing and walking throughout the shift Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs; up to 75 lbs with assistance Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and reaching Ability to work in a cold, noisy environment and multitask effectively EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER: Surge is an equal opportunity employer.
