We're looking for a Service Technician who enjoys hands-on technical work, troubleshooting, and helping customers. In this role, you'll diagnose, service, test, and repair electronic security systems while helping ensure our customers' systems remain reliable and ready when they're needed most.

This is a field-based, hands-on position that includes participation in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergency service needs. Rotation frequency may vary based on department staffing and may include company-observed holidays. Depending on your service area, you'll primarily work with burglar alarm systems and may also support fire alarm, video surveillance, access control, and other low-voltage systems.

How You'll Make an Impact

As a Service Technician, you'll be the person our customers rely on to diagnose problems, restore system functionality, and provide knowledgeable, professional service.

In this role, you will:

• Diagnose, service, test, and repair residential and commercial burglar alarm systems and related equipment.
• Depending on your assigned service area, work may also include fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, and other low-voltage security systems.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and replace system components, including control panels, door contacts, motion detectors, and other electronic devices.
• Identify system deficiencies, determine the cause of technical issues, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Test serviced and repaired systems to verify proper operation and ensure work meets ADS standards and applicable requirements.
• Educate customers on the operation and basic use of their systems and answer questions about completed service work.
• Clearly communicate findings, repair recommendations, and service updates to customers.
• Complete accurate service documentation, including work performed, parts used, testing results, and customer interactions.
• Maintain your ADS-assigned company vehicle, tools, testing equipment, and inventory in clean, organized, and service-ready condition.
• Communicate with coordinators, supervisors, coworkers, and customers regarding scheduling, service updates, and job completion.
• Partner with other ADS teams to resolve service needs efficiently and provide an exceptional customer experience.
• Follow ADS safety policies, procedures, applicable codes, and safe electrical work practices.
• Participate in the department's rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergency service requests, which may include company-observed holidays.
• Maintain punctuality and dependable attendance.

Background & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years of electronic troubleshooting experience required.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of customer service experience required.
• Two years of basic electronics experience preferred.
• Technical or vocational education in electronics, electrical systems, low-voltage systems, or a related field preferred.
• Experience with burglar alarm or other electronic security systems preferred.
• Ability to use hand tools, testing equipment, and electronic diagnostic tools.
• Ability to read and understand technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and service information.

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
• Ability to obtain a Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for Illinois-based employees.
• NICET Level I Certification or higher is a plus for positions supporting fire alarm systems.

What to Expect on the Job

As a Service Technician, you'll spend most of your day in the field traveling between customer locations. This is an active, hands-on position that requires physical mobility and the ability to work safely in a variety of environments.

You should be comfortable with:

• Standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, crouching, and working in tight or confined spaces.
• Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Using hand tools, testing equipment, ladders, and mobile technology throughout the workday.
• Driving between customer locations for extended periods.
• Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Working independently at residential and commercial customer locations.
• Participating in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours service needs.

Compensation

Pay Range: $23.00-$32.00 per hour. Starting pay is based on experience, technical knowledge, education, certifications, and overall qualifications.

This is a full-time, field-based position requiring travel to residential and commercial customer locations throughout the assigned service area.
