CT Technologist - Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center Main PRN Weekends

Job Profile Summary CT Technologist I perform procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency, including pipeline, image‑post‑processing stations, IV contrast injectors, oxygen and suction equipment, patient transport and monitoring devices. Major Responsibilities Examines requests and verifies orders for each assigned patient, referring and questioning orders to the radiologist before performing the exam and contacting the ordering provider when there are discrepancies. Properly identifies patients using two patient identifiers and assists patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures, preparing them for the exam with full documentation on appropriate worksheets. Interviews patients for a complete medical history, reviews in‑patients, ER, and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinical history, records medical history on requisitions, and correlates other test results with the exam being performed. Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results. Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols and records contrast type and amount when requested. Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a radiologist if needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy, processes additional reconstructed images or measurements as instructed. Performs basic patient care functions, informs nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition, initiates life‑support measures for patients when necessary, and assists in code‑blue procedures during medical emergencies. Performs CT scanning and assists a radiologist or PA during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile technique in preparation of necessary supplies and following bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies. Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Practices the principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family members, following appropriate radiation safety standards. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer precautions, maintaining knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease. Adheres to hospital fire and safety procedures, attending all in‑service classes and completing all required safety modules. Performs work accurately and timely during crisis and emergency situations where time is critical. Rotates shifts as required, including call‑back, holidays, and weekends, and adheres to the Atrium Health attendance policy by being punctual and taking measures to prevent absences. Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies, documenting contrast administration in the MAR. Maintains assigned work area neat and orderly, keeping the area completely stocked and cleaning all work areas to promote cleanliness in the workplace. Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan. Minimum Job Requirements Education Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. Certification / License ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and advanced registry from the ARRT in CT within one year of hire required. BLS required. Work Experience N/A Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development. Demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently required to stretch, bend, twist, squat, or kneel during the daily operation of the CT department. May be exposed to various physical conditions such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment. Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation.
