Speech-Language Assistant

Essential duties include providing speech-language intervention services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in accordance with New Mexico licensure requirements. Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising SLP to address speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication goals. Conduct individual and small-group therapy sessions as assigned by the supervising SLP. Collect, document, and report student performance data and progress toward Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. Assist the supervising SLP in preparing therapy materials, activities, and instructional resources. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, attendance, progress notes, and Medicaid billing documentation as applicable. Support the supervising SLP in scheduling services and maintaining student records in compliance with district, state, and federal confidentiality requirements. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student communication needs. Assist in implementing classroom-based strategies to facilitate student communication and participation. Utilize augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology as directed by the supervising SLP. Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as requested by the supervising SLP. Maintain therapy equipment, materials, and workspaces. Comply with district policies, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, FERPA, Medicaid requirements, and applicable New Mexico regulations. Participate in required professional development and training. Perform other duties related to speech-language services as assigned and consistent with New Mexico law and Board regulations.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree and compliance with educational requirements, as per 16 NMAC 26.2 Temporary Paraprofessional License as an Apprentice in Speech-Language (ASL) issued by the New Mexico Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Board. Working towards a license pursuant to the provisions of the Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Act.
