Location Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States Date Published Date published: 15-May-2026 Job ID Job ID: 174291 Position Set Up Tech – Engineering Laboratory Shift Flexibility ONSITE - FLEXIBILITY FOR SHIFT IS REQUIRED - MUST BE WILLING TO WORK 1st, 2nd or 3rd SHIFT AS NEEDED Description HVAC Lab Technician supports the testing, evaluation, and development of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Experience with HVAC equipment, a strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, and the ability to work in a laboratory environment focused on performance testing and product validation. Summary One of our clients in the HVAC industry is seeking an experienced and dependable Set Up Tech in our engineering laboratories. This role is responsible for test execution, running the chillers in water‑cooled and air‑cooled labs. Individuals should be able to set up test environment, calibration and drive efficient chiller operation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in testing and troubleshooting water‑ and air‑cooled commercial chillers, as well as maintaining a safe and efficient lab environment. Key Responsibilities Chiller test operation at high efficiency Perform basic to moderately complex technical tasks that contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects Operate, inspect and maintain chillers, test setups and equipment Work with electrical equipment, including 460‑3‑60 machinery, HVAC operation, refrigerant handling, and EPA certification Select, connect and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and refrigeration systems on Charlotte manufactured equipment Coach team members, collaborate with cross‑functional teams and report results/issues to the relevant team to drive resolution Maintain lab safety, maintenance and uptime (safe workspace, 5S, EHS policy) Report instrument failures and enhance preventive maintenance Collect and report test status, issue reporting Apply and teach measurement techniques, test report writing, systems troubleshooting Proactively resolve testing hurdles through consulting development and other relevant process partners Minimum Requirements Technical/Business School Certificate or High School Diploma or GED or Skilled Trades Apprenticeship 5+ years of experience in chiller/HVAC operations, station and chiller and/or laboratory environment for mechanical/electrical machinery Proven ability to independently lead/run chillers, report results, and is expert in loop tuning and drive test cycle/loop efficiency 5+ years of experience with hand/pneumatic tools, advanced shop mathematics, complex measuring equipment, precision measuring instruments and other tools Ability to operate hand tools (cordless drill, impact wrenches, crane operation, forklift) Work Environment Hands‑on role requiring frequent standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, and working around moving mechanical equipment Exposure to temperature variations, refrigerants, compressed gases, and other lab‑specific conditions Occasional after‑hours or weekend work may be needed to support critical maintenance schedules #J-18808-Ljbffr WilsonHCG
