Nurse (RN) Graduate/Resident

Description

The New Nurse (RN) Resident/Graduate will follow the Nurse (RN) transition process to help support new nursing graduates during their first year of practice in an acute care, emergency and outpatient health setting. The length of clinical orientation will vary according to the needs and progress of the individual. New Nurse (RN) Resident/Graduate are required to attend all scheduled learning experiences, staff meetings and complete required projects, evaluations and written assignments.

Essential Functions:

• Participate in an orientation program and be assigned to a qualified preceptor who will work closely with them during the unit based clinical orientation.
• Participate in clinical experiences and didactic sessions are scheduled during the orientation to facilitate transition and achieve competency in key knowledge, skills and responsibilities of a registered nurse.
• Completes nursing assessment of assigned patient's condition consists with age and condition including physical, psychological, social, developmental, an educational needs.
• Determines initial level of compliance with treatment plan in accordance with hospital policy and unit guidelines.
• Performs nursing crisis intervention, stabilization, triage, and emergency procedures to patients in varying health and physical states.
• Performs patient/ family assessment an identifies variances from diagnosis
• Maintains an updates patient's medical records through concise, accurate and timely documentation
• Works collaboratively with patient care team and family members to establish the implement plan of care to ensure coordination of activities and ongoing communication of patient's health status
• Assess and evaluates patient's health status and response to care, teaching an discharge plan
• Shares observations and assessment outcomes with health care team and family to ensure communication an understanding of patient health status, progress and ongoing needs are communicated
• Maintains professional and technical competency through regular participation in a variety of educational programs and in-services, reviews relevant profession and materials
• Develops and maintains good working and professional relationships with other health care team members and providers to facilitate open and cooperative communication.
• Contributes to the team/ unit's efforts by completing required activities within established parameters to ensure compliance with all applicable medication, storage and documentation standards regulations and requirements
• Reviews and reinforces with patient/ family ongoing education of basics technical procedures, activities and safety necessary for daily living
• Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/ initiatives
• Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skills and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associates Degree in Nursing
• Less than 12 months work experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Current and active unrestricted state RN license on start date.
• BLS certification required
