How you make a difference

The Senior Director of Insurance provides enterprise leadership for the company’s insurance function, overseeing the strategy, governance, and administration of its insurance programs. This role evaluates coverage needs and emerging risks, manages relationships with insurance carriers and brokers, and oversees renewals, claims-related matters, policy administration, compliance, coverage analysis, and budget management. The position advises senior leadership on insurance matters and partners with Legal, Finance, Human Resources, Operations, and other business leaders to protect corporate assets and support business objectives. The Senior Director also manages surety capacity, certificates of insurance, and captive insurance strategy while ensuring required policies and coverages remain in place.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction and governance of the company’s insurance portfolio, evaluate emerging risks, and recommend coverage strategies that support business objectives.
• Manage insurance policy requirements, renewals, budgets, broker and underwriter relationships, surety capacity, certificates of insurance, and captive insurance strategy.
• Ensure the company maintains all legally and contractually required insurance policies and manage applicable claims, coverage terms, deductibles, premiums, and renewals.
• Review insurance and risk requirements for contracts and RFPs, maintain related policies and procedures, and assess events that could result in material loss or liability.
• Advise senior leadership on insurance and risk management matters, prepare reports and presentations, and recommend strategies to reduce or contain organizational risks.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in insurance, risk management, claims administration, legal operations, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex corporate insurance programs and insurance carrier relationships.
• Experience providing consultation and guidance to senior leadership on insurance-related matters.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, financial, and technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and insurance-related systems.

Licenses/Certifications

• Certified Risk Management Professional preferred but not required
