Department Summary
UNT Health is one of the three higher education institutions within the University of North Texas (UNT) System, alongside UNT at Denton and UNT at Dallas. Position Overview
The Department of Medical Education at TCOM is seeking a teaching Pathologist at the rank of Assistant Professor, non-tenured. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the education and mentorship of Doctor of Osteopathy medical students and residents within an integrated, student-centered curriculum.
The successful candidate will provide consistent, longitudinal instruction in pathology across the medical curriculum while leading curriculum development efforts, including content updates and assessment design, in collaboration with course directors. The role also involves strengthening the integration of pathology within system-based courses and supporting improved student outcomes, including preparation for board examinations. In addition, the candidate will participate in faculty development initiatives, contribute to institutional educational efforts, and mentor and advise medical students and residents.Minimum Qualifications
- MD or DO degree with board certification in Pathology.
- Experience teaching pathology in a medical or health professions program.
- Experience with integrated or systems-based curricula.
- Experience contributing to curriculum development or course leadership.
- Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple responsibilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience in using various teaching methods to create an effective learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience contributing to curriculum development or course leadership.
- Proficiency with Canvas or other Learning Management Systems.
- Experience teaching pathology in a medical or health professions program.
- Experience with integrated or systems-based curricula.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
- MD or DO degree with board certification in Pathology.
Job Duties
- Deliver pathology instruction in a variety of topics in pre-clinical medical education through large class sessions, case-based scenarios, and other instructional formats. Develop, review, and update student course materials and learning resources (e.g. practice cases and questions).
- Collaborate with other faculty across the curriculum to help integrate Pathology related content in basic science and clinical science domains. Engage in assessment development activities, including writing and reviewing examination questions and development of course blueprints.
- Serve as an active member of the Academy of Medical Educators, course meetings, and departmental meetings.
- Engage in scholarly activity and professional development consistent with faculty track expectations.
