Electrical Inspector

Description Department of Transportation and Public Works has an immediate opening for an Electrical Inspector. The position is responsible for performing inspections of electrical systems and components and/or related sites to determine compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, standards, plans, and specifications. The role will work out of the North County Satellite Office located at Lindbergh and St. Charles Rock Road. Typical starting salary range is around $24.00 hourly depending on qualifications, experience, and budgetary considerations. St. Louis County cares about health and well-being of employees. Examples of Duties Inspects and evaluates electrical construction and installation by making detailed examinations of electrical systems and equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in construction; prepares accurate reports; maintains records; prepares violation notices and testifies in court. Enforces codes and ordinances for electrical construction and installation. Communicates inspection findings to appropriate parties. Performs related work as required. Minimum Qualifications At least five years of increasingly responsible work experience in the electrical trade or completion of a formal course of training as an electrician apprentice. Equivalent combination of training and professional work experience will be considered. Selection and Appointment A selection committee will evaluate qualifications, including recentness and appropriateness of education and experience, supplemental question answers, employment references, and other relevant information. Candidates who meet the most job‑related qualifications may be admitted to interview. Only those who earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview will be eligible for appointment. Selected candidates will complete a Conviction Questionnaire within 3 days of request. The top five candidates will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority for the final decision.
