Nurse Anesthetist Job Summary:
As a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), you will be responsible for providing anesthesia care across a variety of surgical and procedural settings. You will work collaboratively with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to deliver high-quality anesthesia services, ensuring patient safety and comfort before, during, and after procedures.
Nurse Anesthetist Requirements
- Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Ohio.
- Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program.
- Current certification as a nurse anesthetist from the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists or its predecessor.
- Current Certificate of Authority (COA) from the Ohio Board of Nursing
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Nurse Anesthetist Key Responsibilities
- Conducts and documents a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including obtaining necessary consultations and diagnostic studies. Orders, selects, and/or administers pre-anesthetic medications and fluids, and ensures informed consent for anesthesia is obtained.
- Interviews the patient to review their medical history, focusing on previous anesthesia experiences and current drug therapies.
- Develops and implements a personalized anesthesia care plan.
- Reassesses the patient immediately prior to anesthesia induction.
- Selects and initiates the appropriate anesthetic technique, which may include general, regional, local anesthesia, and/or intravenous sedation.
- Administers anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids to maintain physiologic homeostasis and address any abnormal responses to anesthesia or the operative procedure.
- Chooses, applies, or inserts necessary non-invasive and invasive monitoring devices to collect and interpret physiological data.
- Manages the patient's airway and pulmonary function through techniques such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, or extubation.
- Oversees emergence and recovery from anesthesia, administering medications, fluids, and ventilatory support as needed to maintain homeostasis, alleviate pain, manage anesthesia side effects, or prevent/handle complications.
