Level I Registered Nurse (RN) - ED - Emergency Department - $63 per hour

Job Summary The RN maintains practicing standards as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope, Standards of Practice, and Social Policy Statement. The RN actualizes the vision, mission, values, and balanced scorecard performance measures for Montefiore Medical Center, participates in performance improvement and research activities, maintains professional practice standards, clinical expertise, and demonstrates leadership skills. The RN demonstrates core and unit‑specific competencies based on patient population served. Essential Functions Demonstrates leadership skills in the coordination and delivery of patient care Coordinates an interdisciplinary plan of care Assures 100% of assigned patients have a documented plan of care Ensures completion of patient care assignment 100% of the time Ensures interventions are consistent with accepted LOS parameters Delegates aspects of care to team members consistent with capabilities Ensures that delegated aspects of care are completed per standards of practice Negotiates with team members if unable to fulfill role responsibilities; escalates per policy Establishes a therapeutic relationship with patients/families Assumes charge nurse assignment Mentors and preceptorship of associates Assesses and documents patient/family wishes related to care decisions Systematically assesses the health care of patients/families and responses to care rendered Completes 100% of admission assessment within 8 hours Completes documentation reflecting interdisciplinary team approach Documents teaching and learning needs prior to discharge Initiates teaching and discharge plan for 100% of assigned patients within 24 hours of admission; modifies plan through prioritization of needs and orders Demonstrates critical thinking skills to problem solve and initiate clinical decision making Takes action to optimize patient outcomes Participates in identification, investigation, and resolution of risk management and quality care issues Incorporates problem solving and conflict resolution into daily practice Evaluates patient progress toward health goals and modifies plan accordingly Identifies variances to plan of care Initiates appropriate interventions Documents patient and family response; updates plan of care daily Actively participates and communicates during daily IDT rounds Develops, coordinates and provides direct care for specific patient assignments Provides patient‑focused care Incorporates standards of practice, critical pathways, age‑specific guidelines into plan of care Develops plan of care within 24 hours of admission where possible, includes patient/family in care planning Provides a safe environment for patients/families Orients patient/family to environment and confirms comprehension Administers medication per policy Responds appropriately to urgent situations; applies restraints per guidelines Uses equipment per policies and procedures Provides comprehensive direct patient care to assigned patients Applies nursing knowledge, research, and evidence‑based practice in clinical judgment Administers care consistent with standards of care Considers bio‑psychosocial and spiritual needs Communicates effectively with patient/family and health care team Protects patient rights to care and privacy Respects cultures and promotes diversity Communicates interdisciplinary plan of care to patients/families within 24 hours of admission and daily Recognizes and addresses patient satisfaction or dissatisfaction; escalates issues Documents advanced care directives for all patients Establishes collaborative relationships with team members Documents legibly Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining competencies and supports professional growth Provides examples of ongoing professional development Mentors peers; participates in peer review, education activities Attends at least one hospital committee meeting or in‑service annually; shares information with coworkers Participates in unit‑based performance improvement initiatives Ensures accountability for personal practice Maintains compliance with policies, procedures, and standards of practice Applies critical thinking and problem solving in practice Supports mission, vision, values, performance measures, and nursing practice standards Attends annual educational program and provides feedback Adheres to dress code, attendance, punctuality policies Maintains licensure, registration, and mandatory certifications including BLS Integrates standards of excellence into daily practice Demonstrates respect, professionalism, effective communication, and sensitivity to others' needs Exceeds expectations through assistance and courtesy Qualifications Associate Degree in Nursing required BS in Nursing Preferred Registered Nurse license in New York State and current registration or valid permit on hire Minimum 2 years RN experience in the Emergency Department Basic data entry and retrieval systems proficiency (medium) Effective written and oral English communication (medium) OHS Fit Test required OHS Annual Assessment required Certification in specialty preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) Training required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Training required Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Training required Infection Control & Barrier Precaution Training required Montefiore Medical Center is an equal employment opportunity employer.
