Job Description: These surveys typically take place in retail, commercial, and other architectural or construction environments

The Architectural Surveyor plays a key role in accurately measuring and documenting buildings ranging in size from 10,000 to 100,000 square feet. This position focuses on capturing precise building data using laser scanners and traditional measuring tools, then translating that information into detailed drawings and 3D models. The role supports projects in retail, architecture, and construction, and offers a mix of short travel assignments and remote work preparing building surveys and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site architectural surveys of buildings ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 square feet.
• Use laser scanners and measuring tapes to take accurate measurements of interior and exterior building spaces.
• Record and organize survey data in a clear, consistent, and usable format for design and construction teams.
• Develop detailed 2D drawings in AutoCAD based on collected survey measurements.
• Create accurate 3D models of buildings using appropriate modeling tools and software.
• Translate field measurements into comprehensive architectural documentation, including plans, elevations, and sections as needed.
• Ensure measurement accuracy and verify dimensions to support retail, architectural, and construction projects.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders to clarify survey requirements and deliverables.
• Perform 1–2 day survey trips across the Midwest and East Coast to capture building data.
• Work remotely on non-travel days to complete drawing workups, sketches, and modeling tasks.
• Maintain and properly operate laser scanning equipment and other survey tools.
• Follow established surveying and documentation standards to ensure consistency across projects.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience in architectural surveying and building measurement.
• Proficiency in using laser scanning equipment for building surveys.
• Strong ability to work with measuring tapes and traditional survey tools to capture accurate dimensions.
• Advanced AutoCAD skills for producing detailed architectural drawings.
• Experience with 3D modeling software and workflows for building documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to draw and measure buildings with a high level of precision.
• Knowledge of survey practices related to retail, architecture, and construction projects.
• Attention to detail and strong spatial awareness when interpreting and documenting building layouts.

Work Environment

This role offers a combination of short travel and remote work. The Architectural Surveyor completes 1–2 day trips across the Midwest and East Coast to conduct on-site building surveys using laser scanners and measuring tapes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Cleveland, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
