Position Overview Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Teacher of Multi‑Language Learners plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. The teacher creates an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Responsibilities include supervising students in school‑related settings, monitoring and evaluating outcomes, communicating with students, parents, staff, and community, developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials, maintaining records, and ensuring proper care of materials and facilities. Training Appoquinimink School District may require training in Safety‑Care or a similar competency‑based crisis prevention intervention program as a condition of employment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Know and understand all Adult Education Programs Develop a positive relationship with students Understand the process of student enrollment, including application, pre‑assessment, initial interview, and placement Understand attendance policy and enforce it Teach ABE/ESL/GED courses and ensure all students achieve a level gain Work with Career and College Counselor to ensure all students have placement in a job or post‑secondary training Teach ABE/GED/ESL curriculum Use planning times constructively to create lessons and activities for students Use data to create individualized plans for each student Provide counseling to students when needed or upon recommendation of faculty and staff Work with Principal and Counselor to set NRS and state goals and follow up with students to ensure goals are met Work with Principal, Career, and College Counselor to ensure all ABE students are placed into post‑secondary training, retain or obtain a job Assist in monitoring and maintaining student goals on a quarterly basis Oversee student counselor assignments and keep accurate records Follow up on inquiries and referrals from potential students Keep abreast of GED updates, curriculum changes, and initiatives Ensure all students meet educational goals including NRS gain, NRS goal, and GED attainment Facilitate Writing COA Goals for each student Actively work to meet all school goals Utilize LACES, Schoology, and email as needed and assigned Work and behave in a professional manner to maintain the school’s professional appearance Maintain high time on task and accurate records Perform any other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college Holder or candidate for State of Delaware certification as an English as a Second Language Teacher Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs Proficiency with multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication and excellent human relations skills Minimum Qualifications for International Applicants Preferred: Transcripts must be reviewed and evaluated by a Department of Education approved professional organization prior to application.
