This unit specializes in orthopedic and spine care, accommodating a total of 36 private patient rooms. The nursing team comprises approximately 75 staff members dedicated to providing high-quality patient care.

• Day Shift Staffing: 1 Charge Nurse, 8 Registered Nurses (RNs), 3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), 1 Unit Clerk
• Night Shift Staffing: 1 Charge Nurse, 8 Registered Nurses (RNs), 3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Patient Ratios: 5-6 patients per nurse
• Type of Equipment: Traction, external fixators, halos, walkers, gait belts, bed alarms, continuous pulse oximeters, remote telemetry monitoring
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Dress Code

Staff are required to wear scrub colors designated as Royal Blue. Please adhere to the established dress code guidelines.

Scheduling and Policies

Staff rotate through every third weekend (with exceptions occurring for leaves of absence). Shifts typically run from 0645 to 1915 for day shifts and 1845 to 0715 for night shifts.

This unit is a busy Med/Surg acuity unit, specializing in orthopedic injuries, neurological conditions, including strokes and head injuries, and trauma cases. The unit has grown recently from 26 beds to 36 due to increased demand. Each staff member has access to an iPhone during their shift to utilize the mobile heartbeat program, which enhances communication within the team while ensuring patient privacy. This program allows for broadcast messaging, direct messaging to team members from various departments, real-time visibility of patient caregivers, and access to lab results.
