Manager, General Ledger

Job Posting Title: Manager, General Ledger Employee Type: Regular | Recruiting Start Date: 04-20-2026 | Exempt: Yes | Recruiting End Date: Open Until Filled Job Summary Responsible for the overall reconciliation, analysis, and control of the Organization’s general ledger and the recordation of subsidiary financial information. Maintains the reporting systems necessary to prepare GAAP financial statements, Trust Spending, and other reporting requirements. Responsible for understanding various financial systems, leveraging technology for data analysis, identifying, researching, and solving systemic processing, data, and internal control issues, and acting as the organization’s primary liaison with external auditors during examination periods. GL Operations Ensure the organization’s general ledger and reporting systems are accurate, complete, and timely, meeting GAAP and regulatory requirements. Manage the maintenance of the Fixed Asset subledger. Prepare and/or review periodic tax filings, including General Excise Tax and Form 990 workbook. Co‑ordinate all monthly general ledger closings and responsible for year‑end closing procedures. Control, analyze, and approve all journal entries, adjustments, and reconciliations for the general ledger system. Manage reconciliations and associated checklists. Conduct analytical reviews of the general ledger to ensure proper recordation of transactions. Maintain the chart of accounts, including analysis of proposed changes and additions. Coordinate and prepare annual audit schedules required by external auditors. Act as liaison with inquiries from external auditors during examination periods. Prepare external financial reports for financial institutions, rating agencies, and other special ad‑hoc reports as requested. Supervision Supervise general ledger staff and manage the general ledger department to maintain operations with efficiency, integrity, and accuracy. Demonstrate leadership by taking lead roles in division projects, delegating tasks to staff, and ensuring completion within specified time frames. Technology & Analysis Understand various financial systems, underlying data structures, and source systems. Leverage technology to efficiently and accurately obtain and analyze data. Perform analysis utilizing complex and large data sets to identify trends, business practices, and support organization initiatives. Identify, research, and solve systemic processing, data, and internal control issues requiring collaboration with business units, presenting options, and executing business process changes. Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience. Working knowledge and thorough understanding of GAAP. Highly proficient in MS Office applications including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint. Experience with data mining and reporting tools in an automated financial accounting system. Comprehensive knowledge of broad‑based financial functions and systems. Ability to analyze, reconcile, and synthesize information from various databases and financial statements and prepare reports and analysis. Strong understanding of process flows and internal controls. Ability to analyze and resolve difficult accounting issues. Excellent organizational skills to work independently and prioritize complex, multiple, simultaneous projects. Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and remain flexible in a demanding environment while meeting critical deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external staff at all levels. Supervisory experience in delegating, guiding, directing, counseling, and evaluating staff. Strong managerial skills with ability to work in a team environment and to supervise staff and teams to accomplish common objectives. Ability to initiate business process improvement efforts, change‑management processes, and implementation of these solutions. Preferred Qualifications Certified Public Accountant designation. Prior experience in an educational institution or not‑for‑profit organization. Prior accounting system experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud, MRI, and Business Intelligence software. Physical Requirements Frequently sits, performs desk‑based computer tasks and grasps light or fine manipulation, talks or hears. Occasionally stands and/or walks, writes by hand, and lifts and/or carries, pushes and/or pulls objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Rarely twists, bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crawls, climbs, reaches, or works above shoulder level or requires forceful grasp. Working Conditions This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighboring islands, and may require work outside standard workplaces. The work is typically conducted Monday through Friday during normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
