Reserve Officer

Level: Experienced | Job Location: Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma - McLoud, OK 74851 | Position Type: Part Time Position Purpose and Summary Under the Tribal Police Department, the Reserve Patrolman will be responsible for preventive patrol, crime prevention activities, response to calls for service, preliminary investigation of crimes and incidents, enforcement of Federal, State, and Tribal laws, apprehension of offenders, traffic direction and control, traffic incident investigations, traffic law enforcement, maintenance of order, emergency services and other law enforcement duties as required. Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities Patrol assigned district (Pottawatomie, Lincoln, or Oklahoma County), or as a rover, with primary responsibility for the area where assigned, unless unavailable. Familiar with geography on Jurisdictional Boundaries of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma and patrol area assigned. Patrol district assignments rotated daily when possible to allow officers to become familiar with all areas of the Tribe’s jurisdictional boundaries. Familiar with policies and procedures of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma Tribal Police Department and adhere to them. Perform other duties as may be assigned. Minimum Mandatory Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Additional Qualifications Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Maintain a high level of confidentiality. Work independently and with others. Work under high stress. Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license. Ability to sit for prolonged periods performing repetitive work at the computer, with some bending, stretching, and lifting. English language necessary; Kickapoo language a plus. Possess ability to work responsively with effective communication skills both written and oral. Language Skills Read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Knowledge of the Kickapoo language preferred but not required. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Conditions of Employment Possess a valid driver’s license. Demonstrate US work authorization during the employment verification process. Complete the Indian Police Academy and/or CLEET Basic Officer Certification. Pass a criminal background investigation and drug/alcohol test. Work Environment Ability to work under pressure and maintain personal composure while evaluating situations and responding appropriately, using tact in dealing with business associates, staff, visitors, and tribal members in difficult situations. Excellent management skills are essential. Normal office conditions exist, but conditions with other associated programs and services such as noise levels, stress, tribal members/visitors flow, and number of associates directly managed may vary and be considered high. Administrative workload is managed daily with additional hours required from time to time. Performance Expectations Fully uphold principles of confidentiality.
