Lead Teacher - Two Year Old Classroom Chicago, IL, US 30+ days ago Requisition ID: 1004 Salary Range: $40,000.00 To $50,000.00 Annually The Green Bean Day School & Nursery is a nurturing, eco-friendly environment for children aged six‑weeks to five‑years. This year‑round program operates from 6:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. using the Reggio Emilia approach to foster children’s interests. Responsibilities Professional Conduct Arrive to work when scheduled, be punctual and give ample notice for absences Open and close the classroom and, if needed, the center Maintain respectful working relationships with teachers, staff, and directors Maintain confidentiality concerning children Complete tasks in a timely manner Problem‑solve and maintain composure under new or stressful circumstances Maintain a positive attitude when presented with challenges (e.g., in front of coworkers, parents, and children) Working with Children Present a friendly, warm demeanor and engage with children in an inviting manner Provide a variety of age‑appropriate experiences that foster children’s emerging sense of self‑awareness Use positive approaches to help children control impulses and fears, adhering to the discipline policy that prioritizes redirection Never use corporal punishment, threats, derogatory remarks, or withholding food to manage behavior Encourage self‑help and independence in developmentally appropriate situations Facilitate positive interactions and friendships among children, modeling pro‑social language and behavior Work with each child at their developmental level, providing support and modifications to activities and lesson plans as needed Observe and plan a behavioral intervention plan for children with challenging behaviors; document and communicate with parents; plan parent/teacher conferences if needed Classroom Responsibilities Provide high‑quality care, including changing diapers, following hand‑washing procedures, participating in family‑style dining, and monitoring safety and well‑being of each child Follow a daily schedule that includes choice time, circle time, gross‑motor sessions, and art/sensory activities Develop investigations and provocations that foster children’s interests through observation and assessment Complete blogs, investigation templates, and portfolios on time and keep them up to date Conduct regular documentation used to inform lesson planning and display (photos, children’s work, quotes, observations, teacher reflection) Exhibit proper sanitation behaviors (washing hands after diapering or wiping noses, sanitizing tables and surfaces, sweeping floors after meals) Supervise all children at all times by sight and sound, including roster check after transitions Participate in fire/tornado drills and be aware of the emergency evacuation plan Ensure the playground is free from hazards and gates are closed and locked Keep the classroom reasonably clean and uncluttered Have basic knowledge of NAEYC Standards and how they relate to curriculum, assessment, developmentally appropriate practice, parent communication, and safety Have basic knowledge of DCFS Licensing Standards regarding teacher‑child ratios, health & safety, sick policy, diaper‑changing policy, sanitation, and nutrition Implement best practice to meet and exceed Licensing Standards Complete accident reports, incident reports, and other paperwork in a timely manner; have parents fill out medication consent forms as needed Working with Parents Seek partnership while maintaining respectful rapport Listen and respond respectfully to parents, remaining tactful when discussing children and safeguarding confidentiality Regularly communicate verbally and in writing as needed; remain available and approachable Conduct parent‑teacher conferences annually and as needed Working with School Staff Be open to constructive feedback Work collaboratively with lead teachers, TAs, floaters, and directors Incorporate suggestions from teachers and directors into daily work Maintain respectful relationships with all staff and students Show capability in training new staff Supervise one or more teaching assistants, including conducting team meetings, modeling interactions, and training on documentation and project work Professional Development & School Culture Attend Professional Development Day and other trainings offered Participate in professional development hours (minimum 15 hours per year required by DCFS) Participate in annual Back‑to‑School Night and other family events Contribute to a healthy school culture Offer constructive feedback and support fellow teachers during troubleshooting Express interest and support the activities of other classrooms Actively work to create a healthy and positive classroom and center environment Qualifications, per DCFS Guidelines Section 407.140: Early childhood teachers and school‑age workers shall be at least 19 years of age High school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED) Childcare qualification: Meet one of the following: Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of accredited college/university credits with six semester or nine quarter hours in child care or child development courses (birth‑to‑age 6) One year (1,560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery, school, or licensed day‑care center plus 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of accredited college/university credits as above Completion of credentialing programs approved by the Department per Appendix G Meet all DCFS licensing requirements, including a physical examination showing absence of communicable disease and physical or mental conditions that could affect duties Receipt of flu shot, Tdap, and MMR immunizations Three written character references Complete background check and fingerprinting Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice Knowledge of NAEYC and DCFS Licensing Standards Maintain valid first aid and CPR certification Must be available between 6:45 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. General Requirements for Personnel, per DCFS Guidelines Ability to demonstrate skill and competence necessary to contribute to each child’s physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development, including: Emotional maturity when working with children Cooperation with the program’s purposes and services Respect for children and adults Flexibility, understanding, and patience Physical and mental health not interfering with childcare responsibilities Good personal hygiene Frequent interaction with children Listening skills, availability, and responsiveness to children Sensitivity to children’s socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds and individual needs Use of positive discipline and guidance techniques Ability to provide an environment where children feel comfortable, relaxed, happy, and involved in play, recreation, and other activities Childcare staff shall generally demonstrate skill and competence necessary to assume direct responsibility for child care including: Skills to help children meet developmental and emotional needs Skills in planning, directing, and conducting programs that meet children’s basic needs Willingness to participate in activities leading to professional growth in child development and education, and in training related to specific needs of children served #J-18808-Ljbffr THE GREEN BEAN LLC
