Role Description The Assistant role at Mitzvah Secular Sunday School is a contract position based on-site in Bellevue, WA. The Assistant supports classroom activities, helping teachers prepare materials, organize lessons, and set up learning spaces before and after class sessions. Daily responsibilities include welcoming students and families, taking attendance, assisting with transitions between activities, and providing one-on-one support to students as needed. The role also involves helping coordinate special projects and events, maintaining a safe and inclusive environment, and communicating basic updates to families under the guidance of the lead teacher or program coordinator. The Assistant collaborates closely with staff to ensure that the schools humanistic, secular Jewish values are reflected in classroom interactions and community activities.
Qualifications

• Experience working with children in educational, camp, or youth program settings, with the ability to support diverse learning needs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage respectfully with students, families, and staff.
• Interest in or familiarity with Jewish culture, history, and values, and comfort with a non-religious, humanistic educational environment.
• Organizational skills for managing materials, assisting with lesson preparation, and supporting classroom routines.
• Reliability and professionalism, including punctuality, adherence to school policies, and commitment to creating a safe, inclusive space.
• Ability to work on-site in Bellevue, WA during scheduled Sunday school hours; occasional availability for special events may be required.
• Prior experience in education, social work, community programs, or related areas is beneficial; background checks and references may be required.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it is a plus.
