Registered Nurse (RN)

This position is for a registered nurse in a mixed acuity unit that provides care for both progressive care unit (PCU) and medical-surgical patients. The unit is known for its busy surgical environment, with all permanent staff members trained in PCU practices.

Staffing ratios aim for 1:4 but may extend to 1:5 under certain circumstances. Weekend staffing is variable based on unit needs. No set or blocked scheduling is offered, with shifts determined by departmental requirements. Travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice. Shift assignments may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, with adjustments made every four-week scheduling period, though not guaranteed.

This position will involve caring for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses, including surgical oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma; hepatobiliary: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract cancers, neuroendocrine; colorectal: colon, rectal cancer; plastics: reconstructive breast cancer, sarcoma.

Special procedures/unit details include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, management of oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome intervention, insulin and heparin drips, emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention measures.

Qualifications include a minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience. At least 1 year of experience in a PCU setting is required. Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS. ONS Chemo certification is preferred.

The unit utilizes computerized charting through the EPIC system.
