Position Summary

The Bearings Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the design, development, and continuous improvement of bearing components, assemblies, tooling, and manufacturing processes.

This position provides technical leadership to the engineering team while partnering closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Tooling, and Customer Service to support new product development, manufacturing efficiency, quality improvement, cost reduction, and customer requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in bearing design and manufacturing, metal stamping, machining, assembly processes, tooling/die design, and manufacturing engineering . This role requires a hands-on engineering leader who can take projects from concept through production while working collaboratively with engineers, designers, toolmakers, and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities

Applications & Product Engineering

• Provide technical and applications engineering support to Sales, including design layouts, sales drawings, and product databases.

• Develop internal component drawings, assembly drawings, and vendor drawings.

• Review customer requirements and build-to-print designs for manufacturability.

• Design bearing components and assemblies using Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principles.

• Develop engineering calculations, estimates, designs, technical reviews, and design updates.

• Research and evaluate new materials, specifications, standards, and engineering practices.

• Develop cost models and provide technical input for new business opportunities.

• Support Sales with technical presentations, customer inquiries, and issue resolution.

• Contribute to new product development and engineering innovation.

Manufacturing Engineering

• Develop and implement manufacturing processes and tooling strategies for bearing components and assemblies.

• Develop and release manufacturing plans, work instructions, design controls, and engineering change documentation.

• Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations and troubleshoot production issues.

• Develop process improvements that reduce costs while maintaining quality and customer requirements.

• Resolve complex technical issues while balancing cost, quality, performance, and delivery requirements.

• Partner with Manufacturing, Tooling, and Quality to improve production processes, productivity, and product quality.

Tooling & Die Design

• Design and develop progressive and compound dies for bearing components such as jackets, ball cases, races, retainers, and related products.

• Collaborate with toolmakers throughout tool design, development, build, troubleshooting, and implementation.

• Improve tooling performance, reliability, and service life.

• Support tooling modifications and improvements to increase productivity and reduce downtime.

Quality & Compliance

• Work with Quality to develop control plans, inspection methods, and product quality standards.

• Support PPAP, process validation, capability studies, and corrective action activities.

• Support compliance with applicable ISO standards and customer-specific requirements.

• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.

• Develop engineering solutions to reduce scrap, defects, and customer complaints.

Continuous Improvement

• Lead and participate in Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen initiatives.

• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance manufacturing efficiency.

• Evaluate opportunities for automation and process optimization.

• Lead engineering-driven cost reduction and continuous improvement projects.

• Identify opportunities to improve equipment utilization, setup times, tooling performance, and manufacturing yield.

Project Management

• Lead engineering projects from concept through implementation and production launch.

• Establish project timelines, budgets, resources, and technical requirements.

• Coordinate engineering activities with customers, suppliers, Manufacturing, Quality, and Tooling.

• Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and according to established requirements.

• Maintain project documentation and communicate project status to management.

Leadership & Supervisory Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team.

• Establish priorities and allocate engineering resources based on customer and production requirements.

• Provide technical guidance to engineers, designers, and other technical personnel.

• Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.

• Support succession planning and workforce development.

• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of bearing design and manufacturing processes .

• Experience with metal stamping, progressive/compound die design, machining, and assembly operations .

• Knowledge of bearing components including races, retainers, ball cases, jackets, and related components.

• Understanding of tooling design, tool development, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

• Knowledge of heat treatment and case-hardening processes.

• Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering principles and process development.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access .

• Strong blueprint reading and engineering drawing interpretation skills.

• Proficiency with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) .

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

• Experience with engineering change processes, manufacturing documentation, and process controls.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred.

• Equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing engineering experience may be considered.

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment .

• Experience with bearing design, mechanical design, manufacturing methods, or applications engineering preferred.

• Experience with metal stamping, progressive die design, machining, tooling, and assembly strongly preferred.

• Experience leading engineering projects from concept through production.

• Previous supervisory or engineering leadership experience preferred.

• Experience working within an ISO-certified manufacturing environment preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work effectively in both office and manufacturing environments.

• Ability to regularly walk and move throughout manufacturing and production areas.

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to interact with manufacturing equipment, tooling, and production personnel as required.

• Ability to occasionally travel to customer and supplier locations.
