Digital Finance Transformation - Data Scientist: Associate – Private Equity Performance Improvement

Alvarez & Marsal is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to support private‑equity portfolio companies in accelerating digital enablement within their finance functions. The role focuses on modernizing data environments, automating processes, and building analytics‑driven tools that deliver measurable business impact.

Team

The Digital Finance Transformation team is part of A&M’s Private Equity Performance Improvement Services (PEPI). The practice works with private‑equity‑held portfolio companies to preserve and generate value, focusing on transparency, key performance drivers, and operational execution.

Responsibilities

• Partner with CFOs, Controllers, and FP&A leaders to design, implement, and operationalize digital finance solutions.
• Modernize data environments, automate processes, and build analytics‑driven tools that improve performance, transparency, and scalability.
• Apply strong technical expertise in Python, SQL, and modern data platforms to deliver actionable insights.
• Translate finance and technology requirements, ensuring reliable data integrity, governance, and compliance.
• Support deployment and adoption of solutions across finance teams.

Qualifications

• 3–6+ years of professional experience; consulting or professional services preferred.
• Advanced Python programming, familiarity with machine learning libraries (scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong SQL skills and experience with modern data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric).
• Experience with ETL/orchestration tools (Dagster, Temporal, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Fivetran, Matillion).
• Demonstrated ability to develop lightweight finance applications using Streamlit or Retool.
• Solid understanding of finance and accounting concepts, including forecasting, working capital management, and three‑statement modeling.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills; proven ability to translate between finance and technology teams.
• Ability to travel as required.

Benefits

Salary range is $90,000–$130,000 annually, depending on education, experience, skills, and geography. A&M offers a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance.
