Position Responsibilities:

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting healthcare and government program engagements by conducting thorough reviews of provider financial information, performing reimbursement calculations, completing audits, and evaluating compliance with Medicaid and other government program standards. Responsibilities include supporting all phases of the audit process, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to professional accounting and regulatory standards.

Key duties include:

• Reviewing Medicaid provider cost reports and related financial statements for accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Analyzing healthcare provider financial data for reasonableness and adherence to program requirements.
• Calculating reimbursement in accordance with state and federal Medicaid and other government guidelines.
• Conducting desk reviews and participating in on-site audits as needed.
• Managing all phases of assigned audits, including planning, research, risk assessment, fieldwork, findings development, and reporting.
• Researching and interpreting federal, state, and other relevant regulations to determine billing and reimbursement compliance.
• Interpreting and applying appropriate regulations and guidance before and during each audit engagement.
• Preparing detailed audit workpapers documenting procedures conducted, scope, findings, and conclusions.
• Ensuring audit documentation meets Medicaid, governmental, and professional standards (including AICPA standards).
• Drafting clear and concise reports and recommendations based on professional judgment.
• Accurately gathering, organizing, analyzing, and reporting financial and operational information.
• Identifying ways to enhance processes, documentation, and analysis methods.
• Maintaining electronic documentation in a secure and organized manner.
• Upholding the confidentiality and security of protected health information and sensitive data.
• Effectively managing multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Skills, Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related area.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly with financial and reimbursement data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to review, interpret, and apply statutory, regulatory, and policy requirements in the context of audits and financial reviews.
• Keen organizational skills, with high accuracy and detail-orientation.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple assignments and balance competing deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of an engagement team.
• Commitment to maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity in all work performed.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed based on project and client requirements.
• Capacity to adapt to shifting project priorities, client needs, and deadlines.
• High level of professionalism, reliability, and discretion with confidential or sensitive information.
• Understanding of audit planning, fieldwork, documentation, and reporting best practices.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Accounting or a related discipline (preferred).
• CPA accreditation or progress towards CPA certification (preferred).
• Prior internship or professional experience in accounting, auditing, healthcare reimbursement, or a related field is an advantage.
• Experience with healthcare auditing and analysis of financial data is preferred.
• Experience reviewing provider cost reports and reimbursement-related information is a plus.
• Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, or other governmental healthcare program requirements is highly valued.
• Knowledge of audit documentation and professional standards, such as those set by the AICPA, is desirable.
