Configuration Management Engineer

Salary: $185,000 - 210,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or another related technical field from an accredited college or university.
• We typically look for 15+ years of progressive experience in configuration management, engineering change control, document control, product data management, or a closely related technical discipline.
• We need proven experience managing configuration records, engineering changes, and traceability information in a complex technical environment.
• We expect hands-on experience in systems engineering and a solid understanding of the product lifecycle.
• We require a strong grasp of configuration management fundamentals, including baselines, change control, status accounting, and traceability.
• We look for experience reviewing technical data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency across engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions.
• We need the ability to interpret and reconcile historical configuration information across multiple projects or product lines.
• Experience working in highly regulated or controlled environments is important, preferably in nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, or advanced manufacturing.

• We need demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
• We require proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using digital tools, databases, or enterprise systems to manage configuration data.
• We expect excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
• Preferred experience includes configuration management standards and practices such as ISO, ANSI, or CMII.
• Preferred qualifications also include experience with PLM systems, especially Teamcenter, and ERP systems such as Costpoint or SAP, as well as MES and other business systems.
• We value strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines while maintaining data integrity and compliance.
• We prefer candidates who can identify complex technical data issues, apply corrective action, and support traceability systems across the product lifecycle.
• Experience implementing digital configuration tools, workflow automation, or databases to replace manual processes is highly valued.
• Experience in regulated or safety-critical industries where configuration control, auditability, and traceability are essential is strongly preferred.

• We review and manage proposed hardware and software changes to ensure updates are properly evaluated, approved, documented, and added to the controlled configuration baseline.
• We maintain configuration status accounting records, including the master list of parts, versions, and revisions, so released and built configurations stay aligned with approved engineering documentation.
• We establish, sustain, and continually improve the configuration source of truth across multiple projects by reconciling historical data, resolving inconsistencies, and standardizing controlled records.
• We act as the primary liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure everyone is working from the correct, current, approved design information.
• We manage part traceability, including serial number and lot number tracking, to support end-to-end component identification and lifecycle traceability across products and projects.
• We assess the impact of proposed changes on downstream documentation, manufacturing readiness, quality records, and configuration integrity.
• We support configuration audits, status reviews, and internal assessments by preparing accurate records, identifying gaps, and driving closure of discrepancies.
• We develop, implement, and refine digital tools, databases, and workflow processes that improve the efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of configuration data.
• We identify opportunities to strengthen configuration management practices, reduce manual effort, and improve visibility into design, build, and release status.
• We collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve configuration issues, support change control decisions, and maintain disciplined adherence to configuration management procedures.
• We provide technical guidance on configuration requirements, records management, and traceability expectations to project teams and functional partners.
• We coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to plan and manage product baselines and related documentation.
• We conduct configuration audits to confirm compliance and help resolve any discrepancies.
• We offer expert support and best-practice guidance in configuration management to project teams.
• We review and analyze released engineering change data, coordinating updates among engineering, quality, manufacturing, and data control teams.
• We maintain a professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication.
• We perform other duties as assigned in support of engineering, product configuration, and project execution needs.

We are X-energy LLC, and we offer a full-time exempt Engineer V, Configuration Management role based in Rockville, MD, with an expectation to work in the office 4–5 days per week and travel up to 10% as needed. Our standard hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm ET, Monday through Friday.
