Job Description The School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences (ESWPS) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) announces adjunct and adjunct university supervisor faculty positions in Urban Teacher Education for the Institute for Urban Education (IUE). This position emphasizes excellence in education at all levels in the context of the ESWPS commitment to urban education and educational equity. Responsibilities Teach or assist in teaching courses in initial teacher certification and high‑school Grow Your Own teacher pipeline programs. Supervise and observe preservice teachers in field, community service, and/or clinical experience. Assess candidate performance during field and/or clinical experience. Serve as a liaison between the university and practicum sites, promoting positive relationships with cooperating mentor teachers, teacher candidates, principals, and university faculty. Serve as a liaison between high‑school Grow Your Own programs and the IUE. Assist with mentorship of current and/or prospective IUE students, including responding to questions about the teaching profession and application assistance. Assist with ACT and/or Missouri General Assessment Examination preparation. Facilitate and/or participate in IUE Urban Education seminars. Provide professional development and mentorship to beginning teachers. Participate in regularly scheduled university supervisor, program, and/or adjunct faculty meetings. Demonstrate and reflect knowledge of effective instructional practices for multicultural classrooms. Maintain individual candidate documentation and confidentiality. Travel significantly within the metro Kansas City region. Communicate clearly and timely regarding IUE candidate performance to the IUE Director and/or Associate Director. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions that align with the ESWPS mission, vision, and values. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field. At least five years of successful PK-12 public school experience as a classroom teacher or equivalent in an urban setting. Current or prior teacher certification in the United States. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Valid driver’s license and access to transportation required. Preferred Qualifications Five or more years teaching experience in Kansas City urban schools. One or more years of experience mentoring pre‑service and/or beginning teachers. One or more years of experience with adult learning and/or demonstrated teacher leadership. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and database management. Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish) but not required.
