Managing Attorney

The Managing Attorney will lead the firm’s legal team, overseeing immigration case strategies, legal compliance, and operational excellence. This individual will ensure the firm maintains high standards of client representation, ethical integrity, and business growth while mentoring attorneys and legal staff. The role requires strong leadership, deep expertise in immigration law, and the ability to drive efficiency and innovation within the firm.

*Key Responsibilities:Leadership & Strategy:*

* Develop and execute legal strategies to enhance the firm’s success in immigration law.
* Provide strong leadership to attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
* Oversee and manage high-profile and complex immigration cases, ensuring the highest quality of legal representation.
* Collaborate with executive leadership to align legal operations with business objectives and firm growth strategies.

*Legal & Compliance Oversight:*

* Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local immigration laws and regulations.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of immigration law trends, policy changes, and court decisions that impact firm operations.
* Implement best practices for risk management and ethical legal representation.
* Develop and oversee internal policies, procedures, and case management systems to optimize efficiency and compliance.
* Responsible for drafting and submitting responses for any Bar complaints.

*Case Management & Client Representation:*

* Supervise and provide guidance on complex immigration cases
* Serve as a key legal advisor on high-stakes immigration matters, ensuring favorable outcomes for clients.
* Work closely with the VP of Operations, Legal Ops. Managers and Case Managers to monitor the case progress, deadlines, and filings to prevent errors and delays.

*Team Development & Mentorship:*

* Recruit, train, and mentor Supervising Attorneys and Associate Attorneys, ensuring professional development and adherence to firm values and goals.
* Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to enhance team effectiveness.
* Develop training programs to keep legal staff updated on changes in immigration law.

*Operational & Financial Management:*

* Oversee case workflows, legal team productivity, and operational efficiency.
* Work with the finance department to manage budgets, billing, and revenue growth strategies.
* Optimize client intake and service delivery processes to enhance client satisfaction and retention.

*Business Development & Client Relations:*

* Represent the firm at legal conferences, networking events, and professional associations.
* Develop strategic partnerships and relationships to expand the firm’s client base and market presence.
* Lead initiatives for thought leadership, including publishing articles and speaking engagements.

*Client Communication & Escalation*

* Serve as the primary legal escalation point for complex client issues, complaints, and sensitive matters requiring attorney involvement.
* Partner with the Department Heads for Customer Service, Case Management, and Operations teams to ensure timely, accurate, and professional communication with clients throughout the lifecycle of their cases.
* Review and approve legal communications related to case denials, withdrawals, Requests for Evidence (RFEs), Notices of Intent to Deny (NOIDs), and other complex legal matters.
* Develop and implement best practices for client communication to promote transparency, consistency, and an exceptional client experience.
* Support attorneys in managing difficult client conversations and escalated situations while ensuring alignment with the firm's mission and ethical obligations.
* Monitor trends in client concerns and recommend operational or legal process improvements to enhance client satisfaction and reduce escalations.

*Attorney On-Call Schedule Management*

* Oversee and coordinate the firm's Attorney On-Call schedule to ensure continuous legal support for clients during evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
* Develop and maintain the on-call attorney schedule, ensuring fair and equitable rotation among attorneys while maintaining appropriate coverage.
* Serve as the escalation point for urgent legal matters requiring immediate attorney review or decision-making outside of regular business hours.
* Establish protocols and best practices for handling emergency client situations, including detentions, arrests, urgent court matters, and other time-sensitive immigration issues.
* Monitor on-call activity and identify opportunities to improve response times, communication, and overall client service.
* Collaborate with Operations and Customer Service to ensure seamless communication and coordination between the on-call attorney and internal teams.
* Review on-call trends and recommend staffing, workflow, or process improvements to better support clients and the legal team.

*Qualifications & Skills:*

* J.D. (Juris Doctor) from an accredited law school.
* Active bar membership.
* Minimum of 15 years of immigration law experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
* Proven experience managing and mentoring legal teams in a high-volume immigration law firm.
* Strong knowledge of USCIS, EOIR, ICE, and DOL regulations and processes.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish).
* Experience handling federal litigation in immigration law.
* Track record of business development and firm growth strategies.
