Job Description Division/Unit: Investigation Bureau Civil Service Title: Senior Rackets Investigator Position Title: Senior Rackets Investigator Salary Range: $81,905 – $81,905 The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) seeks a Senior Rackets Investigator to work in its Investigation Bureau. The role involves independent judgment and initiative under supervision to conduct a wide variety of investigations. This is a sworn police officer position. Candidates must be certified as a police officer on the NYS DCJS Police registry, have successfully completed New York State police academy training, and pass a mandatory background check to carry a firearm. Responsibilities Conduct, manage, and update ongoing criminal investigative caseloads, including homicides. Perform fieldwork, including surveillance, quality assurance checks, and undercover operations. Review voluminous and complex facts to assess validity. Prepare extensive narrative reports. Provide protective details and witness transportation protection. Execute search warrants that often lead to arrests. Work undercover as required. Deploy, operate, and maintain both overt and covert electronic investigative equipment. Manage and monitor complex and lengthy investigations. Supervise junior investigators as appropriate. Testify at grand jury, criminal trials, and all other court proceedings. Conduct background investigations on employees, contractors, and registrants. Ensure background checks are sent out and received. Contact and interview witnesses and subjects. Perform field visits to businesses, communities, and other contacts. Gather information through collateral contacts, financial institutions, and other law enforcement agencies. Use city databases (eJustice, IIS, IFCOM, Webcrims, Google, and watchdog registries) to perform background and information searches. Work on special projects and tasks assigned by the Chief Investigator. Must be willing to work flexible hours. Minimum Qualification Requirements High school graduation or equivalent and three years full‑time paid experience in police enforcement or investigative work, including at least one year in rackets or police investigative work. Education or experience equivalent to point 1, but all candidates must have at least one year of full‑time paid experience in rackets or police investigative work. Preferred Requirements / Skills Bachelor's degree. Bilingual in Mandarin, Cantonese, or Korean. Prior law enforcement or criminal justice experience. Relevant experience in domestic violence and hate crime investigations. Experience working with victims and witnesses of domestic violence, hate crimes, and special victim cases. Ability to conduct confidential and sensitive investigations. Experience evaluating credit worthiness. Investigations involving research, compilation, or location of evidence to build a case or uncover illicit activity. Proficiency with wiretap equipment, GPS trackers, video and audio surveillance transmission, and recording devices. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to workflow changes. Ability to work independently and manage multiple short‑term projects. Follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines. Strong attention to detail and concern for data accuracy. Dependable team player in a collaborative environment. Perform under pressure in a fast‑paced, detail‑oriented, self‑motivated setting. Interact with all levels of staff and other law enforcement agencies. Flexibility for domestic or overseas travel. Maintain a U.S. passport. Additional Requirements Firearms qualification required. Valid certificate of completion from a New York State Basic Police Officer Course or eligibility to attend and complete a Police Officer Refresher course. Valid NYS driver’s license. Pass a medical exam, drug test, psychological screening, and intensive background check. How to Apply Submit a cover letter and resume.
