Adjunct Instructor (2026-27)

Applications for this position are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed as teaching opportunities become available, rather than after a fixed deadline. We greatly value our adjunct instructors and strive to accommodate teaching preferences whenever possible. However, please note that course assignments may be subject to change and could be reassigned or canceled up to a few weeks before the start of each semester.

A part-time Adjunct Instructor will teach a class (or a combination of classes) for the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Our curriculum, programs and content areas determine teaching needs which will vary by semester. Key responsibilities include: following a standardized course syllabus and class plan and using pre-developed instructional materials for each course; effectively engaging class members in discussions during class sessions, bringing the instructor's unique background and expertise to the course experience by helping students apply their new knowledge to relevant, real-world problems; providing verbal and written assignment feedback to students as appropriate and grading student work; posting grades in a timely manner and in accordance with university guidelines; supporting student learning by establishing and communicating regular office hours and responding to student issues and questions related to the course; maintaining regular communications with the Associate/Assistant Deans about students' experiences, potential barriers, ideas for enhancement, etc.; and adjunct instructors teach a variety of instruction modes. The default mode for undergraduate courses is in-person. For courses designated as in-person, class sessions are expected to be taught in-person on campus. For other course modes, such as hybrid or fully online, mode expectations will be discussed prior to the beginning of each semester.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Earned doctorate or terminal degree in the same or closely related discipline as the course taught. In lieu of an earned terminal degree in an appropriate field as described above, instructors may be qualified by professional experience or by a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively manage group discussions; strong writing skills, with experience providing feedback on written assignments; significant work and/or teaching experience directly related to the course being taught; and experience teaching in higher education.
