Housekeeping Team Leader - Oakbridge

Vicar's Landing

Performs, on a daily basis, the routine and non-routine cleaning functions as assigned through Vicars Landing in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility; and as may be instructed by the Director of Housekeeping/Laundry Services, in order to provide a safe, sanitary and attractive environment for all Members, guests and employees. Job Description Achievement of accepted performance is measured by the following important duties: 45% – Maintains quality index range of 75-89% effectiveness. Performs cleaning functions as assigned according to departmental procedures. 10% – Keeps cleaning chemicals mixed to proper dilution and uses only approved products. Disposes solutions in properly labeled bottles approved by the product manufacturer. 5% – Gathers supplies and equipment within 15 minutes of shift start, prepared to begin assignment for the day. 5% – Thoroughly cleans and returns all equipment to designated storage areas by shift end. Cleans spills during cart and equipment setup/breakdown and disposes empties in the dumpster. 5% – Reports all broken, damaged or inoperative equipment and hazardous conditions. Tags Housekeeping Service equipment as inoperative with a description of the problem. 5% – Maintains annual sick time within 5% or 13 days per year. Reports to work on time 95% of the time. Does not work more than scheduled hours or clock in ahead of schedule unless authorized. Follows scheduled lunch and break times. Notifies supervisor when absent or late to work. Wears a nametag daily on shirt or smock. Keeps uniform, hair, and shoes neat and clean. Knocks on door and identifies self when entering a room or apartment. 5% – Treats members with consideration, respect, and full recognition of their dignity and individuality. Discusses medical conditions and treatment only as medically necessary. 10% – Uses "Wet Floor" signs when performing tile and carpet wet cleaning tasks. Places equipment cords to avoid tripping hazards and unplugs them when not in use. Wears gloves on both hands during cleaning, trash, and linen handling. Calls for assistance when moving heavy objects. Properly disposes of trash. Removes equipment from hallways and elevators and reports to designated pool areas in the event of a disaster drill or actual disaster. 10% – Demonstrates ability to use all Housekeeping Services equipment through practical application. Performs periodic and situational duties as assigned according to procedures. 5% – Attends annual required in‑services and participates in 80% of monthly departmental meetings. Description of Work An employee in this class performs housekeeping duties and functions as a team leader over a small group of housekeepers engaged in housekeeping within a limited, designated area of a State facility on an assigned shift. Teamwork assignments follow a prescribed routine. The team leader is responsible for maintaining established standards on a daily basis. The majority of the team leader's time is spent in performing cleaning duties and observing work in progress, with some time required for adjusting and inspecting work progress, carrying out special instructions, or resolving cleaning problems. The size of the physical area and number of employees assigned will vary according to use and purpose of the facility, volume of pedestrian traffic, and intensity and frequency of the activities. In compliance with OSHA requirements relative to precautions to prevent the spread of blood‑borne diseases, the following staff are classified as Category I because of possible contact with bodily fluids during routine job functions such as processing soiled laundry from the health center: Housekeeper Supervisor Laundry I Laundry II Laundry Supervisor Qualifications Ability to read, write and speak some English; perform basic arithmetic; follow written and oral instructions in English. Ability to climb, stoop, walk, stand, bend, and move intermittently throughout the assigned shift. Ability to lift or move a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to see, hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to meet the requirements of this position. Ability to function independently; have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies. Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility. May be exposed to unsanitary conditions, unpleasant odors, dust, chemicals and verbal abuse of residents. Non‑Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High School diploma or equivalent certificate desired. One year in commercial or residential housekeeping is preferred.
