We are seeking an HR & Talent Acquisition Specialist to join our corporate office in Silver Spring, Maryland. This position focuses primarily on recruiting, with additional responsibility for onboarding and day-to-day HR support.

\n

\n

Position Summary

\n

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, the HR & Talent Acquisition Specialist will manage the full recruiting process for property-level and corporate positions. The ideal candidate has experience recruiting within the property management industry and understands the hiring needs of leasing, maintenance, and property operations teams.

\n

This is a hands-on role for someone who actively sources candidates, conducts thoughtful interviews, keeps hiring managers informed, and follows through from the initial opening through the employee’s start date. Approximately 80% of the role will focus on recruiting, with the remaining time supporting onboarding and other HR activities.

Key Responsibilities

\n

Recruiting and Talent Acquisition

\n

\n
• Manage full-cycle recruiting for property managers, assistant property managers, leasing professionals, maintenance supervisors, maintenance technicians, regional positions, and corporate roles.
\n
• Partner with the Vice President of Human Resources and hiring managers to confirm staffing needs, position requirements, compensation ranges, and hiring priorities.
\n
• Create and maintain accurate, engaging job descriptions and advertisements.
\n
• Actively source candidates through Indeed, LinkedIn, employee referrals, industry networks, trade schools, and other recruiting channels.
\n
• Develop candidate pipelines for frequently filled and difficult-to-fill positions, particularly maintenance and property management roles.
\n
• Review applications and conduct initial interviews to assess relevant experience, qualifications, compensation expectations, availability, and interest.
\n
• Coordinate interviews, collect hiring manager feedback, and maintain timely communication with candidates.
\n
• Prepare and coordinate approved offers of employment under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources.
\n
• Coordinate background screenings and pre-employment requirements, escalating issues for HR review.
\n
• Maintain accurate applicant records, recruiting trackers, and requisition updates.
\n
• Provide regular reporting on open positions, candidate activity, hiring progress, sourcing effectiveness, and recruiting expenses.
\n
• Support hiring for new property transitions and other periods of increased staffing needs.
\n

Onboarding and HR Support

\n

\n
• Coordinate the transition from accepted offer through onboarding and the employee’s first day.
\n
• Support completion of onboarding documents and employment verification requirements within applicable deadlines.
\n
• Maintain accurate employee information and documentation in BambooHR and other HR systems.
\n
• Coordinate with managers and internal departments to prepare for new hires.
\n
• Assist with employee communications, personnel records, reporting, and HR projects.
\n
• Respond to routine employee questions and direct sensitive or complex matters to the Vice President of Human Resources.
\n
• Handle applicant and employee information with discretion and confidentiality.
\n

Required Qualifications

\n

\n
• At least three years of recruiting experience, including direct experience recruiting for a property management company or supporting property management clients.
\n
• Experience recruiting for leasing, maintenance, and property management positions.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple openings and competing hiring priorities.
\n
• Strong sourcing skills and experience identifying candidates beyond incoming applications.
\n
• Experience conducting initial interviews and assessing candidates against position requirements.
\n
• Strong written communication, organization, and follow-through.
\n
• Experience using applicant tracking systems, recruiting platforms, and Microsoft Office.
\n
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and sound professional judgment.
\n
• Ability to work onsite at the Silver Spring, Maryland corporate office Monday–Friday.

Preferred Qualifications

\n

\n
• Experience supporting recruiting across multiple properties or states.
\n
• Experience in multifamily or student housing.
\n
• Experience recruiting skilled maintenance professionals and supervisory staff.
\n
• Familiarity with BambooHR, Indeed employer tools, LinkedIn recruiting tools, and background screening platforms.
\n
• Experience with onboarding and general HR administration.
\n
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
\n
• SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
\n
