The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary


The Committee on Global Thought (CGT) was established in 2006 with the mission of enhancing the university's engagement with issues of global importance.The Committee is therefore committed to cross-disciplinary and transnational approaches in order to address the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first-century world.


Reporting to the Executive Director of CGT, the Program Coordinator oversees the Committee'sday-to-day administrative and program operations, communications, and event planning.


Responsibilities


Communications

• Develop and maintain communications and promotional materials for CGT programs and events, including event descriptions, posters/flyers, social media campaigns, and other digital and print content, ensuring consistency with CGT branding guidelines.
• Manage and update the CGT website; respond to inquiries from the Columbia community and general public regarding CGT programs and events.
• Compile communications, marketing, and event analytics reports; write and coordinate program reports and stakeholder communications.
• Maintain records of CGT membership and curricular/public activities for internal reference and use in digital and promotional materials.

Event Management

• Plan and oversee CGT programs and events, including student orientation, admissions and recruitment events, academic workshops, receptions, and research initiatives.
• Coordinate all aspects of public and virtual events, including speaker communications, space reservations, logistics, catering, A/V, and participant support across time zones.
• Develop strategies, metrics, and reporting mechanisms to expand audience engagement and diversify event outreach and delivery.

Financial Management

• Manage financial operations, including expenses, reconciliations, reimbursements, invoices, honoraria, payment tracking, vendor relationships, procurement, and audit support; prepare financial reports and analyses for the Executive Director.

Office Management

• Coordinate CGT staff and faculty meetings; prepare meeting materials and agendas for the Executive Director and CGT Chair; maintain electronic filing systems; and manage office supplies, technology, and facilities-related matters.
• Coordinate travel arrangements and space reservations for public and internal events.
• Maintain constituent lists, files, and database records, ensuring accuracy and organization.

General Support

• Hire and train work-study and casual employees; delegate assignments and approve hours; update standard operating procedures; send timesheet reminders; and review and process casual employee timesheets.
• As needed, support other programmatic priorities, including but not limited to the support of Sponsored Projects and other research-related administrative duties.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience.
• 0-2 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2-5 years of related experience.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Knowledge of Columbia University's accounting systems (ARC) and other CU administrative, events, and web platforms.
• At least two years of related administrative experience in a university, especially events and/or media support, or other complex organization.
• Experience and knowledge in drafting documents, interpersonal communications, customer service, dealing with ambiguity, program planning, and other organizational skills.
• Knowledge of social media platforms and tools, as well as event photography, is a plus.
