Job Title Security Officer in Training Nights Agency Texas A&M University Department University Police Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Security Officer in Training – Nights receives classroom and on-the-job training from Security Officer Supervisors and University Police Officers. Under supervision, the officer gains familiarity and experience for the position, providing a positive image of a concerned and capable security professional through bearing, demeanor and presence during evening and night hours throughout campus. What you need to know Pay Rate: $16.64 per hour Please note: Applicant must successfully complete a background investigation, including driving history, criminal background and credit history. Position Details: Works non-business hours; shifts start at or after 4:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 a.m.; must be able to operate a two-wheel self-balancing mobile patrol unit. Hire date will be on or after September 1, 2025. Qualifications Required Education and Experience High School graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Required Licenses Must obtain State of Texas Class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment. Inability to obtain the license may result in termination. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work with reduced levels of managerial oversight. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population. Physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities, including outdoor working conditions and shift work with varying days off. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Applicant must successfully complete a background investigation, including driving history, criminal background and credit history. Preferred Education and Experience College courses in criminal justice or behavioral science programs. Prior employment involving contact with the public. Responsibilities Patrol buildings and grounds on foot or car, looking for suspicious activity, unsecured doors, fires, vandalism, and act as a deterrent to criminal activity. May be required to make decisions and apply discretion on security and criminal reporting issues during non-business hours. Provide on‑site security by assuming specific duties within certain buildings (libraries, athletic facilities, research laboratories), as well as off‑campus TAMU property. Must remain alert for hazards and security threats during nighttime darkness. Provide information to visitors, students, and employees or direct inquiries to appropriate personnel. Provide support to University Police during special events (e.g., football games, yell practice) and perform other duties as assigned.
