About the Role:

The RN Wound Care position is a specialized nursing role focused on the assessment, treatment, and management of patients with acute and chronic wounds. The primary goal is to promote optimal healing outcomes through evidence-based wound care practices, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role involves conducting comprehensive wound assessments, developing individualized care plans, and implementing advanced wound care therapies. The RN Wound Care nurse also plays a critical role in preventing wound complications and reducing hospital readmissions by closely monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatments as necessary. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to improving patient quality of life and supporting overall health system efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in wound care or related specialties.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong knowledge of wound care principles, anatomy, and physiology.
• Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in Wound Care (e.g., Certified Wound Care Nurse - CWCN or equivalent).
• Experience with advanced wound care technologies and modalities.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
• Additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT).
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and outpatient wound care clinics.

Responsibilities:

• Perform thorough wound assessments including measurement, documentation, and evaluation of wound characteristics.
• Develop and implement individualized wound care plans based on patient needs and current clinical guidelines.
• Administer advanced wound care treatments such as debridement, dressing changes, and negative pressure wound therapy.
• Educate patients and caregivers on wound prevention, care techniques, and lifestyle modifications to support healing.
• Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care.
• Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans accordingly to optimize healing and prevent complications.
• Maintain accurate and detailed clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with emerging wound care research and best practices.

Skills:

The RN Wound Care nurse utilizes clinical assessment skills daily to evaluate wound status and identify changes requiring intervention. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating effectively with healthcare team members to ensure cohesive care delivery. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities enable the nurse to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans based on patient response and emerging clinical evidence. Proficiency with documentation and electronic medical records ensures accurate tracking of patient progress and compliance with healthcare regulations. Additionally, familiarity with advanced wound care techniques and technologies allows the nurse to apply the most effective therapies to promote healing and prevent complications.
