Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) and Evening Shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
Job Summary:
The RN Supervisor for the night and evening shifts is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality nursing care to residents in the nursing home during non-daytime hours. This position ensures that all clinical staff are properly managing care, maintaining regulatory compliance, and responding to any emergencies or urgent medical needs. The RN Supervisor will provide leadership and guidance to the nursing staff and support the Director of Nursing in managing overall care delivery for residents.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee Resident Care: Supervise and manage nursing staff during the night and evening shifts, ensuring that all residents receive appropriate care based on their individualized care plans.

• Staff Management: Assign and monitor nursing tasks, ensuring that the staff is working efficiently and in compliance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. Provide support and direction to nurses, CNAs, and other staff members.

• Clinical Leadership: Serve as the clinical leader during the assigned shifts, providing guidance on nursing procedures, interventions, and medication management.

• Assessment and Documentation: Conduct comprehensive assessments for new admissions, changes in residents’ conditions, and critical care needs. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of resident care and progress in the electronic health record (EHR).

• Emergency Response: Respond promptly to any medical emergencies, accidents, or crises. Take charge of emergency procedures and provide leadership in crisis situations, including coordinating with physicians, family members, and other healthcare professionals.

• Quality Control and Compliance: Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, safety standards, and all nursing home regulations. Conduct audits of resident care, and address any issues or concerns promptly.

• Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Communicate effectively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals regarding residents' needs, treatment plans, and any changes in condition.

• Training and Education: Provide guidance and in-service education to nursing staff, ensuring they understand and follow updated nursing procedures, regulatory standards, and best practices.

• Family Communication: Maintain communication with residents’ families, addressing concerns, updating them on care plans, and informing them of any significant changes in residents' conditions.

• Supervise Admissions and Discharges: Oversee the process of resident admissions and discharges during the assigned shifts, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed.

Qualifications:

• Current New York State RN License is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a long-term care or healthcare setting, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage staff and provide direction in a clinical setting.
• In-depth knowledge of nursing practices, care planning, and nursing home regulations.
• Ability to assess and respond to medical emergencies, ensuring proper care and interventions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff, residents, and families.
• Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare software.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Skills:

• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Ability to manage and mentor nursing staff, ensuring optimal team performance.
• Ability to maintain a calm and composed demeanor in stressful or emergency situations.
• Compassionate approach to working with elderly or vulnerable populations.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to stand, walk, and assist with lifting or transferring residents as needed.
• Some exposure to potentially hazardous materials, medical equipment, and emotional stress in a healthcare setting.
• The RN Supervisor may be required to handle difficult family dynamics or challenging medical conditions and be prepared to address these with professionalism and care.
