Quality Manager

Overview We are seeking a Quality Manager for the Elgin, IL site within the Mailing Solutions business unit. This role supervises Quality Control Technicians, maintains quality KPIs, and supports site leadership in aligning with customer specifications, audit readiness, and robust quality systems to drive continuous improvement. The position may contribute to new product development projects and acts as a key contributor to the Quality Plant Control System with indirect reporting to the site Plant Manager. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Supervise and manage Quality Control Technicians across all shifts: recruit, onboard, train, evaluate, mentor, coach, and develop staff; train Packer Leads on quality standards and initiatives. Ensure alignment with customer specifications, drive audit readiness, and uphold robust quality systems to support product compliance and continuous improvement. Lead end-to-end quality incident investigations with timely containment and risk mitigation. Conduct structured root cause analysis (RCA) using standard problem‑solving methodologies. Develop, implement, and verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Ensure all investigations and documentation comply with internal quality system requirements. Collect, analyze, and trend quality data to identify issues, support investigations, and drive informed decision‑making. Support project management, change management, SOP documentation and implementation, regulatory compliance, and leadership needs with plant operations and new product development. Deliver training material internally and externally for applications, processes, quality process changes, and new equipment operations. Drive continuous improvement and measurable business value through Lean/DMAIC methodologies, reducing COPQ and improving process performance and customer satisfaction. Proactively identify, prioritize, and execute improvement initiatives, maintaining a pipeline of projects to optimize equipment, processes, and overall operational efficiency. Collaborate with NPD and Engineering on cross‑BU initiatives, developing quality and equipment standards and supporting new product trials. Engage with production to develop new products and support process development through PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis). Assist in training temporary and new employees, including periodic checks of QA protocols and retraining as needed. Assist in creating quality assurance plans for new products to ensure quality from the start. Support site safety performance by complying with Pregis safety requirements and reinforcing safe, standardized processes through quality systems and continuous improvement. Competency (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Ability to travel up to 10–20% to support multi‑site initiatives, training, audits, and new product development activities. Analytical and critical thinking abilities. Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify trends and tell the story. MiniTab or data analysis experience is a plus. PFMEA experience. Detail oriented and organized; able to manage multiple projects in cross‑functional teams. Hands‑on approach working with diverse production teams. Ability to develop people and foster employee participation. Strong multitasking, analytical, troubleshooting, and mechanical skills. Effective in presentations and facilitating meetings. Ability to support a 24x7 manufacturing facility as needed. Environment Office desk position with time on the shop floor. Exposure to moving equipment; indoor work with frequent exposure to uncontrolled climate on the shop floor. Possible heat exposure above 86 degrees Fahrenheit, humidity above 50%, and noise above 85 dB. Physical Characteristics Frequent sitting, standing, stooping, and squatting, up to 40%. Frequent use of keyboard, computer, and email. Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling (up to 25 lbs). Routine typing and use of telecommunications systems (Outlook, MS Teams, etc.). Position Type Full time; Salaried Exempt Supports 24x7 manufacturing schedule Overtime may be required to meet position objectives Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in engineering or a similar relevant field preferred, or equivalent industry experience. 3–5 years of manufacturing Quality Leadership experience required. Demonstrated experience with data and statistics preferred.
