Surgical Coordinator

Triage phone calls and patient inquiries Retrieve voicemail and EMR messages and return them by the end of the business day Schedule new visits, follow-ups, post-operative appointments, surgeries, and ancillary tests Place surgical dates in the calendar and schedule them in EPIC promptly Ensure surgeries are authorized one month before surgery, except for urgent add-on cases Ensure required documentation and pre-testing are completed and reviewed before surgery Manage referrals and insurance authorizations for diagnostic procedures within two business days unless urgent Create, scan, file, and prepare patient charts and medical documentation Scan medical records into individual patient EMR accounts Facilitate communication between physicians, hospital departments, department management, and patients Complete assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision Requirements Ability to triage phone calls and patient inquiries professionally and efficiently Ability to retrieve and return voicemail and EMR messages by the end of the business day Ability to schedule new visits, follow-ups, post-ops, surgeries, and ancillary tests Ability to schedule surgeries in EPIC promptly and coordinate required authorizations Ability to ensure required surgical documentation and pre-testing are completed, obtained, and reviewed Knowledge of medical clearances, EKGs, cardiology work-ups, pulmonary tests, and related pre-surgical documentation Ability to manage referrals and insurance authorizations within required timelines Ability to create, scan, file, and prepare patient charts Ability to scan medical records into patient EMR accounts following scanning guidelines Ability to facilitate communication among physicians, hospital departments, management, and patients Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in managing patient scheduling, including surgeries and follow-ups, while ensuring compliance with documentation and authorization requirements.
