Job Description

This role performs a full range of janitorial and general housecleaning duties to keep facilities clean, safe, and well maintained. You will clean and disinfect restrooms, maintain floors and carpets, remove trash and recyclables, and support basic maintenance tasks in line with an established cleaning schedule.

Responsibilities

• Perform general housecleaning duties according to the approved cleaning schedule.
• Clean, disinfect, and resupply restrooms, including fixtures, mirrors, and dispensers.
• Remove litter, wastepaper, and broken-down boxes from buildings and dispose of all waste in the appropriate dumpsters, including recyclable and non-recyclable containers.
• Vacuum carpeted floors and perform both high and low dusting to maintain a clean environment.
• Maintain cleanliness of carpeted and tiled floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and other appropriate methods.
• Wet mop tile floors and perform spot-cleaning of floors and surfaces as needed.
• Provide general maintenance support related to cleaning and upkeep of assigned areas.
• Secure storage and supply rooms after use and ensure cleaning supplies and equipment are properly stored.
• Escort cleaning suppliers and vendors when they make deliveries to the facility.
• Assist with construction-related cleanup, including debris removal and organization of work areas as assigned.
• Assist with moving furniture and shelving within the facility when requested.
• Assist with replacement of light bulbs and ballasts as assigned.
• Keep accurate track of ladders, vacuums, and other cleaning equipment used within the scope of the job and ensure they remain in good working condition.
• Use cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with instructions and facility procedures.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 6 months of experience performing janitorial duties, including removing litter, wastepaper, and broken-down boxes, dusting, mopping, and spot cleaning.
• Ability to mop, sweep, dust, sanitize, vacuum, and perform general cleaning tasks consistently and efficiently.
• Basic reading skills to follow written instructions, schedules, and safety guidelines.
• Basic math skills to handle simple measurements, quantities, and supply counts.
• Basic writing skills to complete simple logs, checklists, or notes as needed.
• Average mechanical aptitude to operate and care for cleaning equipment such as vacuums and floor tools.
• Ability to work safely with and around cleaning chemicals, following all safety procedures.
• Ability to assist with moving furniture or shelving and performing light physical tasks related to construction support and maintenance.
• Ability to safely use ladders and handle equipment required for high and low dusting and light bulb replacement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience cleaning restrooms, including disinfecting and restocking supplies.
• Experience with both carpeted and tiled floor care, including vacuuming, mopping, and spot cleaning.
• Familiarity with separating recyclable and non-recyclable waste.
• Experience assisting with construction cleanup or facilities support tasks.
• Comfort working with basic hand tools or equipment when moving furniture or replacing light bulbs.
• Bilingual communication skills are a plus.

Work Environment

This role is based in a facility setting that requires regular movement throughout the building to clean restrooms, offices, and common areas. You will work with cleaning equipment such as vacuums, mops, ladders, and various cleaning chemicals. The dress code is casual, and you will be provided with a work shirt as part of your attire. The position operates on defined shifts: a first shift from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and a second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. You may assist in areas where construction, furniture moves, or light maintenance tasks are taking place, and you will work both independently and alongside other staff to maintain a clean and orderly facility

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carlsbad, CA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.80/hr.
