Assistant Director of Rehabilitation (ADOR)

The Assistant Director of Rehabilitation (ADOR) assists the Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) in managing and coordinating all rehabilitation services within a skilled nursing facility (SNF). The ADOR helps ensure the delivery of high-quality physical, occupational, and speech therapy services while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations, including Florida licensing requirements, Medicare guidelines, and PDPM (Patient-Driven Payment Model) standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Operations

  • Assist in overseeing daily rehabilitation department operations.
  • Coordinate physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech-language pathology (SLP) services.
  • Monitor patient treatment plans to ensure quality outcomes and achievement of functional goals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care plan conferences.
  • Assist with caseload management and scheduling to maximize efficiency and patient care.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation supports medical necessity and reimbursement requirements.

Leadership and Staff Management

  • Supervise rehabilitation staff, including therapists, assistants, and support personnel.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and clinical support to team members.
  • Facilitate staff meetings and continuing education programs.
  • Address employee concerns and assist with corrective action processes as directed.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, CMS, Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), and facility policies.
  • Monitor documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in preparing for state surveys, audits, and accreditation reviews.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Monitor outcomes, productivity, and key performance indicators.

Financial and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing departmental budgets and resource utilization.
  • Monitor therapist productivity and staffing levels.
  • Support census development and rehabilitation program growth.
  • Review billing and reimbursement practices to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Assist with equipment procurement and maintenance.

Resident and Family Relations

  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, and facility staff.
  • Address concerns related to rehabilitation services.
  • Promote resident satisfaction and customer service excellence.
Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology program.

Licensure

  • Current Florida license in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology.
  • License must be active and in good standing.

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of clinical rehabilitation experience, preferably in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of PDPM, Medicare Part A and Part B, Medicaid, and managed care programs.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of skilled nursing regulations and rehabilitation best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to analyze productivity, outcomes, and financial performance metrics.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist patients as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a healthcare environment with exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

Reports directly to the Director of Rehabilitation and works closely with facility administration, nursing leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary care teams.
