Description Director Facilities Washington, DC | In-Person | $80K - $90K | Washington Post Top Workplace Join Community of Hope as a Director of facilites. In this role you will maintain facilities in compliance with applicable building, fire, accessibility, workplace safety, environmental health, shelter, and health care regulations. You will provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for planning, operation, maintenance, safety, security, compliance, and continuous improvement of facilities across the agency’s multiple health centers and temporary housing shelters. In addition you will ensure that administrative, program, and community-facing spaces are maintained in good repair, with conditions routinely assessed and confirmed as satisfactory, and that they remain safe, accessible, and welcoming. We strive for excellence and value integrity in all that we do What You’ll Do Directs daily operations, preventive maintenance, repair, inspection, and long-range planning across health centers, temporary housing shelters, administrative offices, storage areas, outdoor spaces, and supports facilities. Performs regular facility inspections with the goal of visiting each site weekly to check conditions and to ensure that administrative, program, and community-facing spaces are maintained in good repair, with conditions routinely assessed and confirmed as satisfactory, and that they remain safe, accessible, and welcoming. Maximizes the agency’s use of MaintainX as the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to create, assign, prioritize, and monitor work orders; manage preventive maintenance schedules, inspections, checklists, asset records, documentation, and reporting; promotes timely follow-up, data quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across all sites. Partners with operations, health and shelter leadership, and the Safety/Emergency Preparedness Committee to maintain emergency response plans for power outages, severe weather, utility interruptions, infectious disease concerns, facility incidents, resident emergencies, and other disruptions; schedules and leads emergency drills; serves on BERT (Building Emergency Response Team). In collaboration with the supervisor and key Operations Leadership, provides capital improvement recommendations and works with the Director of Capital/Special Projects, where applicable, to ensure capital improvement projects are completed satisfactorily, on budget, and on schedule. Meets with supervisees regularly and provides real-time feedback, training, support, and coaching as needed. Creates meeting agendas, sends meeting agendas in advance when possible, and documents concerns promptly as needed. Applies principles learned through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) trainings and/or trauma informed care trainings (TIC) and leads with a DEI and TIC lens when appropriate. Reviews the performance of team members in a timely manner, including completing 90 day and annual performance evaluations per their due dates, documenting any issues or changes, providing recommendations for professional development and/or training opportunities, and recognizing staff when appropriate. Partners with the Talent Management team regarding personnel matters including but not limited to, terminations, leaves of absence, training, onboarding, and other COH handbook policies. If applicable, actively recruits for vacancies with a sense of urgency. This includes reviewing resumes, phone screening, interviewing, and completing references. This also includes partnering with Talent Management for assistance in an effort to fill vacancies promptly. Requirements Must-Haves Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management, business administration, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Seven or more years of progressively responsible facilities, operations, property management, construction, maintenance, or physical plant leadership experience required. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience, required. Strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with leaders and staff across the organization as well as lead internal teams. Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, generators, security systems, access controls, elevators where applicable, and general building maintenance. Strong understanding of workplace safety, emergency preparedness, sanitation, habitability, accessibility, regulatory compliance, inspection readiness, and documentation practices, required. Ability to respond to urgent facility needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call situations, required. Ability to support facilities serving vulnerable populations with professionalism, confidentiality, cultural humility, and respect for dignity and privacy. Demonstrated dependability and punctuality, with a consistent commitment to attendance, timeliness, accountability, and fulfillment of assigned responsibilities, including availability for scheduled and emergency response duties. Proficient in computer systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to leverage technology for effective communication, collaboration, reporting, and operations management. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds independently and heavier objects with appropriate assistance or equipment. Ability to frequently climb stairs and, as needed, safely use ladders or similar equipment during facility inspections. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday while conducting facility inspections and responding to operational needs. Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, push and pull while inspecting facilities, accessing building systems, performing repairs/maintenance, and assisting with operational needs. Visual ability sufficient to inspect facilities, read labels, instructions, and safety information, identify hazards, review plans and documentation, and operate a motor vehicle, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to travel timely and reliably between all Community of Hope sites throughout the workday for inspections, contractor meetings, alarm responses, and other facility-related needs. The role may also require transporting supplies, tools, equipment, and other materials needed to perform maintenance, repairs, and operational duties. A valid driver’s license and regular access to a car, as well as proof of auto insurance, required Nice-to-Haves 7 years of supervisory experience preferred. Experience managing facilities across multiple locations, preferably in a health care, community health, housing, shelter, human services, nonprofit, public service, or highly regulated environment preferred. Demonstrated experience managing budgets, vendors, service contracts, capital projects, preventive maintenance programs, and urgent repair needs preferred. Why You’ll Love Working Here!
