Chief Financial Officer

This is an Exempt, Non-State Service, X-16 Position. EOM, M - F. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for the strategic and operational management of all financial functions for Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB). This includes budgeting, financial planning, accounting, compliance, any grant management, and long-term fiscal sustainability. This position reports to the Executive Director and directly supervises the accounting staff of four. The position will supervise all financial transactions for MPB including and limited to accountability for the expenditure of any corporate donations, state and federal funds. The CFO ensures financial integrity, transparency, and accountability in alignment with state regulations, any federal funding requirements, and the mission of MPB services to the citizens of Mississippi.

Strategic Financial Leadership

• Develop and implement long-term financial strategies that support MPB's growth, sustainability, and public service goals.
• Advise the Executive Director/CEO, COO and Board of Directors on financial planning, risk management, and fiscal policy.
• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting and fixed assets and Human Resources.
• Collaborate and oversee the development and management of the annual operating and capital budgets with financial forecasting with each department head to align financial plans with operational needs.
• Must have an understanding of Cash Accounting methods.
• Responsible for preparing and submitting annual budget requests to the Mississippi Legislative Budget Office.
• Collaborate with leadership on procurement contracts and an understanding and experience in the state purchasing process.
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to agency managers and Board of Directors
• Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Oversee annual independent audits and coordinate responses to audit findings.
• Responsible for generating all state mandated reports tracking agency expenditure, making sure all categories are properly filled out and not missing any information
• Maintain a good working relationship with the State's Budget Office, procurement offices and Institute for Higher Learning office to forecast upcoming issues
• Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need to be Successful

Must demonstrate expertise in leadership, planning, goal setting; have knowledge of MAGIC, MERLIN.net, and SPAHRS; oral and written communication skills, and human relations skills. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree, CPA, CMA, or CIA certification and 10 years' experience in financial management or accounting practice required, supervisory experience and experience with state government accounting preferred; experience working with grants (state, federal and foundation), contract review/development.
