EMCO Technologies is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician IV to support network infrastructure at NASA Johnson Space Center. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing, troubleshooting, and installing network systems for large-scale campuses supporting thousands of users.

This position will work with both local and remote teams to maintain and resolve issues on a live network, utilizing advanced monitoring tools and diagnostic equipment. A strong focus on providing effective, hands-on support for end users and maintaining reliable network infrastructure is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure components, including routers, switches, wireless access points, and UPS systems.
• Support a large-scale campus network serving several thousand users by troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues.
• Update and manage network management and monitoring systems.
• Resolve work orders related to cable plant, network, and VoIP issues.
• Perform cable plant work involving fiber optic, copper, and Category cabling.
• Document service records in Remedy ITSM and track incident tickets through resolution.
• Provide day-to-day support for end users, troubleshooting network connectivity issues and managing network devices.
• Collaborate with local and remote engineering teams on the installation, replacement, and configuration of network components.
• Perform hands-on, field-based troubleshooting to maintain optimal network performance and availability.
• Follow established change management processes and communicate planned network/system outages to affected teams.
• Provide on-call, after-hours, and weekend support as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education/Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree with six (6) years of relevant experience.
  • Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree with four (8) years of relevant experience
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
• Extensive experience with Cisco Communications Manager, Unity, Voice Gateways, and Presence.
• Proficiency programming and configuring Cisco switches and routers, including IP telephony configuration.
• Extensive experience troubleshooting wireless access points and network connectivity issues.
• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UPS systems and network switches.
• Experience with Cat 5e and Cat 6A cabling.
• Proficiency troubleshooting wireless networks, including wireless controllers.
• Working knowledge of networking protocols and services, including:
  • OSPF
  • DNS
  • DHCP
  • NTP
  • IPv6
• Strong understanding of routing and switching technologies and techniques.
• Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
• Ability to follow established change management procedures and communicate planned network/system outages.
• Strong written documentation skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely document troubleshooting activities and problem resolution.
• Comfortable performing hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in a live network environment.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Professional demeanor and courteous communication when interacting with customers, partners, and coworkers.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify to operate GSA-owned vehicles, including 12-foot box trucks.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience serving as an escalation point for complex network issues.
• Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to work on-site at NASA Johnson Space Center during normal business hours.
• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, including network switches and routers.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, including raised floors and communications closets.
• Ability to work in noisy environments, including data centers and operations centers.
• Work may involve occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and loud noise levels.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and crawl as part of daily duties.
• Ability to provide on-call, after-hours, and weekend support as required.
